southern africa / indigenous struggles / non-anarchist press Friday September 03, 2010 - 11:17 by Mike Marqusee   image 1 image
Mike Marqusee has just returned from a visit with trade unionists and democracy activists in Swaziland. This article will appear in The Hindu Sunday Magazine on 29 August. Swaziland is a small country with a big problem. The 1.3 million inhabitants of the land-locked southern African kingdom live under the thumb of one of the world’s last absolute monarchies, a venal and repressive regime whose plunder of the country is systematic and comprehensive. ... read full story / add a comment
África austral / luchas indígenas / other libertarian press Tuesday May 11, 2010 - 16:21 by Richard Pithouse

southern africa / indigenous struggles / non-anarchist press Friday May 16, 2008 - 17:12 by Coalition Against Water Privatisation
On Wednesday, in an attack that would have made Robert Mugabe proud, Johannesburg Mayor, Amos Masondo launched an unprecedented and vicious attack on the recent High Court ruling that found pre-paid meters to be unconstitutional and ordered the City of Johannesburg’s to change its water service policies. The judgement was handed down by Judge M.P. Tsoka on 30th April. Masondo’s arrogant and completely misdirected utterances are unwarranted and dangerous and must be condemned with the contempt they deserve. ... read full story / add a comment

The Swaziland Coalition of Concerned Civic Organization (SCCCO), a Coalition of Swaziland’s broad Civil Society organizations and NGO’s, wishes to add its voice to those who have rightly condemned the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s (ZEC) withholding or refusal to release the Presidential Election Results of 29 March, 2008 without just cause. We see this action as one designed to provoke frustration and anger of the gallant people of Zimbabwe to a point where, in desperation, they take the law into their hands in a manner similar to the recent crisis in Kenya wherein the election victory by the opposition was stolen by the outgoing government of President Kibaki. ... read full story / add a comment
