Mexique, 4 janvier 2009) ... read full story / add a comment

The following speech was given by First Nation/Abenaki leader Luke Willard at the Put People and the Planet First Vermont May Day demonstration in Montpelier. This rally, largely organized by the Vermont Workers Center, made history by being the largest weekday demonstration in the long history of Vermont’s Capital City. Despite rain, cold, and a grey sky, and despite the fact that Montpelier has a population of only 7800 people, 2000 Vermonters marched to demand that the needs of the People and the Planet be valued over cooperate greed.

In Addition to voicing support for Abenaki Rights, the rally called for healthcare for all, the right of all Vermont workers to form a union, justice for migrant farm workers, and more. 37 peoples’ organizations including the Occupy Vermont, VT AFL-CIO, 350 Vermont, the AFT, VSEA, UE, IWW , ISO, Red Cover Collective, and the Vermont Progressive Party endorsed the rally.)

An explanation of the situation in Oaxaca, highlighting the role of Stalinist groups in the repression of anarchists and others. The authoritarian heritage of these groups manifests itself in their political behavior (as the article, below, explains). They've betrayed all the unaffiliated folks (or those from indigenous or anarchist groups) that choose to stay away from political parties (as well as front groups like ASARO and the FPR) and who risked their lives, and continue to do so, in the face of the selective repression that now dominates life in Oaxaca. ... read full story / add a comment

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Zapatista rebel leader Subcomandante Marcos issued a blistering criticism on Sunday of Mexico's leftist front-runner in the 2006 presidential race, Mexico City Mayor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, accusing him of being authoritarian and overly ambitious.

The rebel leader -- who had previously defended Lopez Obrador against attempts to knock him out of the presidential race -- went so far as to compare the mayor to widely despised former president Carlos Salinas de Gortari.

"We believe there are the seeds of authoritarianism and a personal project that goes beyond a single term," Marcos said of the mayor's administration in a com ... read full story / add a comment
