At 04:30 on Monday, 31 May 2010, in international waters, Israeli navy commandos invaded an international humanitarian aid boat, the Mavi Marmara, which was part of an aid flotilla travelling to the Gaza Strip. The troops fired on unarmed civilians, killing at least 19 aid workers and injuring dozens more. A range of South African civil society organizations have expressed outrage at this latest Israeli attack, which yet again reflects Israel’s arrogant and flagrant disregard for international law and human rights. Quelle image avez-vous de Madagascar? Celle d'un beau pays, peuplé d'animaux endémiques et de plantes aux formes incroyables. Celle aussi d'un pays pauvre, l'un des plus pauvres du monde en fait. Si vous êtes un observateur un peu intéressé vous saurez également que la si belle nature malgache subit depuis de nombreuses années les effets de l'augmentation drastique de la population. The AntiWar Coalition and Earthlife Africa calls for mass protest against the presence of the US Weapons of mass destruction (USS Theodore Roosevelt) that has been invited by the SA government to dock in Table bay harbour. There has been a deliberate mis-information campaign by the authorities to destabilize demonstrations against the warship by releasing of different dates of arrival. The Anti-War Coalition condemns in the strongest possible terms the decision by the Nuclear authority to allow the US warship, the Theodore Roosevelt, to dock in Cape Town from the 6th to the 10th October 2008. It is from this warship that on the 4th Oct 2001 the US imperialists launched the invasion and bombing of Afghanistan. It is from this warship that on the 16th March 2003 the invasion of Iraq was launched. From its track record, it is sure to be carrying nuclear weapons. By playing host to the warship the SA government is honouring weapons of mass destruction, it is giving legitimacy to the imperialist invasions of many countries. Further the docking of the warship is an act of intimidation against the working class in South Africa, and indeed in the rest of Africa. Who knows when this carrier of imperialist mass murder will be launched against the people of Iran? Cet article s’attache à comprendre les événements récents qui ont entouré la démission de Robert Mugabe au Zimbabwe. L’auteur ne pense pas que cela est susceptible d’amener une quelconque forme de libération pour le peuple du Zimbabwe, étant donné que cela ne répond pas aux problèmes auxquels le Zimbabwe doit faire face : une classe dirigeante sans scrupules, l’État, le capitalisme et l’impérialisme.
In this article, using an anarchist analysis, it will be argued that this lopsided trade, expansive investment and projection of state power by the South African ruling class are signs of the imperialist role they play in southern Africa. In undertaking this, it will be outlined how the South African ruling class, as an integral part of their imperialist role, are conducting a class war against the workers and the poor across sub-Saharan Africa. Through examining this class war, it will hopefully become clear that the South African state is being used as a key instrument by the ruling class – made up of capitalists and high-ranking state officials – to further their own interests in southern Africa. The consequence of highlighting the imperialist nature of the South African state also has implications for the strategies and tactics that should be used in struggle. It will be strongly argued that due to its hierarchical centralising and expansionist ambitions, the state cannot be used as a tool for liberation in South Africa or in the region.
