At 04:30 on Monday, 31 May 2010, in international waters, Israeli navy commandos invaded an international humanitarian aid boat, the Mavi Marmara, which was part of an aid flotilla travelling to the Gaza Strip. The troops fired on unarmed civilians, killing at least 19 aid workers and injuring dozens more. A range of South African civil society organizations have expressed outrage at this latest Israeli attack, which yet again reflects Israel’s arrogant and flagrant disregard for international law and human rights.

We call on all South Africans to spare even a few moments to join the solidarity vigil outside the Department’s offices in Pretoria. ... leggi tutto / aggiungi un commento

The first week of March 2010 marks the International Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) which began in Toronto, Canada in 2005 and now includes a wide range of activities which differ from one country to another as, according to the international committee of the campaign, “An important aspect of IAW is that activists in each city decide what IAW should look like in their city”. ... leggi tutto / aggiungi un commento

This coming week is Israel Apartheid Week, a week during which people around the world unite in protest against the brutal oppression of the Palestinian people in Gaza and elsewhere.

In support of this great initiative, we have decided to host this week's screening in collaboration with the Palestinian Solidarity Committee, who will be at the event to discuss the current situation, history and underlying issues of the conflict.

Our documentary is 'Bil'in My Love', a moving film about the nonviolent struggle in the West Bank village of Bil’in against construction of the Israeli separation wall. ... leggi tutto / aggiungi un commento

The Palestine Solidarity Committee supports the position taken by Zackie
Achmat and Jonathan Shapiro in their call to Jewish organisation Limmud to
withdraw its invitation for war criminal David Benjamin to speak at its
events next week. We also support Achmat’s call on people who support
justice to withdraw their participation if Benjamin remains on the
programme. In particular, we call on those who stand for human rights and
social justice – especially within the legal fraternity – to be consistent
in their positions.

February 6, 2009 -- The Congress of South African Trade Union (COSATU) is pleased to announce that its members, dock workers belonging to the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU), achieved a victory last night when they stood firm by their decision not to offload the Johanna Russ, a ship that was carrying Israeli goods to South Africa. The AntiWar Coalition and Earthlife Africa calls for mass protest
against the presence of the US Weapons of mass destruction (USS
Theodore Roosevelt) that has been invited by the SA government to dock
in Table bay harbour. There has been a deliberate mis-information
campaign by the authorities to destabilize demonstrations against the
warship by releasing of different dates of arrival. The NNR puts the
date at Friday 3rd October, while the Navy puts it at Sat 4th October,
the SABC reports that the ship will only dock on Monday 6th October. ... leggi tutto / aggiungi un commento

The Anti-War Coalition condemns in the strongest possible terms the decision by the Nuclear authority to allow the US warship, the Theodore Roosevelt, to dock in Cape Town from the 6th to the 10th October 2008. It is from this warship that on the 4th Oct 2001 the US imperialists launched the invasion and bombing of Afghanistan. It is from this warship that on the 16th March 2003 the invasion of Iraq was launched. From its track record, it is sure to be carrying nuclear
weapons. By playing host to the warship the SA government is honouring weapons of mass destruction, it is giving legitimacy to the imperialist invasions of many countries. Further the docking of the warship is an act of intimidation against the working class in South Africa, and indeed in the rest of Africa. Who knows when this carrier of imperialist mass murder will be launched against the people of Iran? The people of Iran are being put in the dock over building of
energy from nuclear power, while the destructive use of nuclear power is being welcomed with open arms by the SA regime. ... leggi tutto / aggiungi un commento

The AntiWar Coalition and Earthlife Africa calls for a mass protest outside the Arms Fair being held at the Ysterplaat Military base. The protest will be held outside Gate 5 of the military base in Nahum Str(off Koeberg rd) on Saturday 20 Sept 2008 at 10am. The Arms Fair is a bartering ground for capitalist monopolies. Under the cover of an Air show this event brings together shady arms dealers and arms manufacturers from around the globe. These arms dealers and manufacturers are behind the ongoing wars in Africa and profit from war on all continents. They provide arms to capitalist governments and other agents to keep most of the world's population in chains of exploitation and hunger, by force.

textSwallowed by Mzansi: South Africa’s ruling class in Africa Jun 10 by Shawn Hattingh 0 comments

In this article, using an anarchist analysis, it will be argued that this lopsided trade, expansive investment and projection of state power by the South African ruling class are signs of the imperialist role they play in southern Africa. In undertaking this, it will be outlined how the South African ruling class, as an integral part of their imperialist role, are conducting a class war against the workers and the poor across sub-Saharan Africa. Through examining this class war, it will hopefully become clear that the South African state is being used as a key instrument by the ruling class – made up of capitalists and high-ranking state officials – to further their own interests in southern Africa. The consequence of highlighting the imperialist nature of the South African state also has implications for the strategies and tactics that should be used in struggle. It will be strongly argued that due to its hierarchical centralising and expansionist ambitions, the state cannot be used as a tool for liberation in South Africa or in the region.

textAfrique : la Chine, nouvelle puissance impérialiste ? Mar 28 by Lucien van der Walt et Michael Schmidt 0 comments
