At 04:30 on Monday, 31 May 2010, in international waters, Israeli navy commandos invaded an international humanitarian aid boat, the Mavi Marmara, which was part of an aid flotilla travelling to the Gaza Strip. The troops fired on unarmed civilians, killing at least 19 aid workers and injuring dozens more. A range of South African civil society organizations have expressed outrage at this latest Israeli attack, which yet again reflects Israel’s arrogant and flagrant disregard for international law and human rights. We call on all South Africans to spare even a few moments to join the solidarity vigil outside the Department’s offices in Pretoria. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

The Palestine Solidarity Committee supports the position taken by Zackie Achmat and Jonathan Shapiro in their call to Jewish organisation Limmud to withdraw its invitation for war criminal David Benjamin to speak at its events next week. We also support Achmat’s call on people who support justice to withdraw their participation if Benjamin remains on the programme. In particular, we call on those who stand for human rights and social justice – especially within the legal fraternity – to be consistent in their positions. ... read full story / add a comment

... read full story / add a comment

The AntiWar Coalition and Earthlife Africa calls for mass protest against the presence of the US Weapons of mass destruction (USS Theodore Roosevelt) that has been invited by the SA government to dock in Table bay harbour. There has been a deliberate mis-information campaign by the authorities to destabilize demonstrations against the warship by releasing of different dates of arrival. The NNR puts the date at Friday 3rd October, while the Navy puts it at Sat 4th October, the SABC reports that the ship will only dock on Monday 6th October. ... read full story / add a comment

The Anti-War Coalition condemns in the strongest possible terms the decision by the Nuclear authority to allow the US warship, the Theodore Roosevelt, to dock in Cape Town from the 6th to the 10th October 2008. It is from this warship that on the 4th Oct 2001 the US imperialists launched the invasion and bombing of Afghanistan. It is from this warship that on the 16th March 2003 the invasion of Iraq was launched. From its track record, it is sure to be carrying nuclear weapons. By playing host to the warship the SA government is honouring weapons of mass destruction, it is giving legitimacy to the imperialist invasions of many countries. Further the docking of the warship is an act of intimidation against the working class in South Africa, and indeed in the rest of Africa. Who knows when this carrier of imperialist mass murder will be launched against the people of Iran? The people of Iran are being put in the dock over building of energy from nuclear power, while the destructive use of nuclear power is being welcomed with open arms by the SA regime. ... read full story / add a comment

The protest will be held outside Gate 5 of the military base in Nahum Str(off Koeberg rd) on Saturday 20 Sept 2008 at 10am. The Arms Fair is a bartering ground for capitalist monopolies. Under the cover of an Air show this event brings together shady arms dealers and arms manufacturers from around the globe. These arms dealers and manufacturers are behind the ongoing wars in Africa and profit from war on all continents. They provide arms to capitalist governments and other agents to keep most of the world's population in chains of exploitation and hunger, by force. ... read full story / add a comment
