In a recent conversation with a compa, we discussed the movement internationally and here within the Empire. We compared. Things are intensifying around the world, due to many different factors, including fundamental contradictions of capitalism, and indigenous people in particular and oppressed people as a whole own conscious struggles to be free. Here in the u.s. we have much work to do, and as my comrade I was talking to put it, "We have to clean house!" ... read full story / add a comment

Dear Friends and Comrades,

It’s been a few weeks since our July board meeting, where we took on the challenging task of choosing between the thirty-plus grant applications we received this round. We had a productive and invigorating weekend, including an extensive conversation revisiting the Institute for Anarchist Studies’ (IAS) purpose, which will be articulated in a new statement of direction on our Web site soon. Most important, we are happy to announce that we decided to fund three fantastic essay proposals (see below for descriptions):

"Sienvolando: Snapshots of Art Actions, Popular Power, and Collaborative Networks in Argentina," by KellyAnne Mifflin

"Organizing against Capitalism: Translation of Eric Duran’s ‘Creating a Counterhegemonic Economic System,’" by Scott Pinkelman

We decided to publish an open letter addressed to all individuals or groups interested in the small milieu of publishing and distribution of anarchist ideas. As members of the AEELI, who are involved in a NPO (nonprofit organization) dedicated to this cause, we believe it is essential that not only our ideas but our actions are known and debated. We hope they are not misinterpreted and that these interpretations do not undermine some people's solidarity. We can not deal comprehensively with the history of our association. However, we must say that we have been through some difficult, though fruitful, years and we hope that the future brings even more stability and that we leave our precariousness behind us.

On Mayday 2009, we had a jam packed line-up...

The Whitechapel Anarchist Group stopped by to tell us about their busy weekend (Anarchist Rally, Space Hijackers action, Zine symposium and SmashEDO Mayday street party). We then heard from Sam Chase from Art Not Oil (part of Rising Tide UK) and their plans on celebrating BP's rescheduled centenary. Debra Shaw (of Rampart Collective, Radical Theory Reading Group and UEL fame) came on Dissident Island Disks to play us a couple tunes and have a friendly chat. The show ends with No Borders London discussing all things Calais, discussing the future No Borders camp that will take place their as well as the ongoing campaign to forge activist links with France on immigration issues.

The show also features the latest tune from the ever prolific and political Carbon Town Cryer, a quick and easy vegan falafel recipe, announcements, and, as always, lots of laughs and happy times.

A libertarian ecosocialist utopia is possible - but it will take organisation, strategy, preparation and courage to win a social revolution that can probably only begin with an international general strike. Without an organized concerted attempt and a clear shared vision (2020?) we will never succeed in attaining lasting, radical reforms. If we fail to apply the principles of social-ecological anarchism and build enough popular support , insurrections and violent revolution could end in unprecedented violence, catastrophic destruction and the continuation of slavery under even worse totalitarian regimes and police states than exist today or annhilation of the human species. the following document is far from perfect. It is meant for the sake of consision and building unity within the (specifically) social anarchist movement - dealing with how to bring about a truly ecological anarchist-communist society.
