1st of May, 1886! 136 years ago today, the American working class created a priceless experience for the upcoming struggles of the working classes of the whole world by saying “this fight is our last fight!”. It remains a victory till our time. The demand of “8 hours for work, 8 hours for sleep, 8 hours for whatever we want” to replace the 16 hours of work and the assaults of capitalism which targeted the lives of the working classes then in the 19th century turned into a general strike in America. General strike has been one of the most significant weapons of the anarchist action as an earning to the history of the class struggle.
For anarchists, the struggle for 8 hours has never been seen as a simple request for reform. Anarchists fought to replace it with a social revolution, with the claim that “Regardless of our working time, whether it be 2 hours or 8 hours, it is slavery if we work for bosses”.

The crisis of capitalism won’t resolve itself. No government can save us. Only the working class can end it for the better. We need to make a revolution. We need to overthrow capitalism and build libertarian communism, worldwide. For this, the labour movement needs to be built anew. We need to organise in the workplace and rebuild our unions from the ground up. We need direct democratic control, with delegates held to mandates, and a consistent federalist structure. The practices by which we build our movement will be the ones that form the basis of the new society. And we need to do it now, because time is short. read full story / add a comment

Este mes de abril se cumplen 30 años del inicio de la gran huelga de las trabajadoras de la Empresa Colombiana de Telecomunicaciones (Telecom) de 1992, contra la privatización de la compañía. Este paro, uno de los mas grandes y largos de la historia de los servicios públicos en Colombia, movilizo unas 12.000 obreras, y fue liderado por el mayoritario Sindicato de Trabajadores de Telecom (Sittelecom) y la minoritaria Asociación de Técnicos de Telecom (ATT), que confluyeron para impulsar un Comité Nacional de Paro. read full story / add a comment

Nowadays, organising ourselves and creating campaigns are much easier than thirty years ago during the poll tax era. Το παρακάτω κείμενο αποτελεί απάντηση των Αναρχικών Κομμουνιστών Meanjin (Anarchist Communists Meanjin) από τo Μπρίσμπεϊν της Αυστραλίας, σε άρθρο που φιλοξενήθηκε στην βρετανική αναρχική ιστοσελίδα Freedom News, με τίτλο “Fuck Leftist Westplaining” , αλλά και άλλων άρθρων με παρόμοια θεματολογία, που ως κύριο σκεπτικό τους έχουν την θέση πως η ευρωπαϊκή Αριστερά -και το Αναρχικό Κίνημα ειδικότερα- θα πρέπει να επικεντρώσει την κριτική της μόνο στην ιμπεριαλιστική επέμβαση του Ρωσικού Στρατού και να μην καταπιάνεται καθόλου στην παρούσα συνθήκη με το θέμα του ΝΑΤΟ και της δικής του ιμπεριαλιστικής επέκτασης και των σχεδιασμών του στην Ανατολική Ευρώπη. En los últimos meses la situación política latinoamericana pareciera lograr cierta estabilidad, especialmente con la salida institucional a la revuelta en Chile luego de las elecciones. Sin embargo, en realidad, se abre otro capítulo en esta coyuntura, donde aún muchas cosas están en disputa y lejos se está de una “estabilización” política y económica en el continente. La situación de la invasión militar rusa de Ucrania y todas las derivaciones y desarrollo que pueda tener van a impactar en nuestra región de un modo u otro. Ya en lo inmediato, los precios de las materias primas se han disparado en el mercado mundial, lo cual puede generar mayores ingresos en nuestras economías nacionales, pero no necesariamente mejorar su distribución, sino que se enriquezcan más las burguesías latinoamericanas, aumentando al final aún más nuestra dependencia económica. read full story / add a comment

De una ley que contiene 476 artículos, solo se impugnarán 135, debido a los acuerdos políticos a los que se llegó con el Frente Amplio por parte de las organizaciones sociales que empujaron la iniciativa.
