On Thursday the 'Colombia 3' suddenly appeared back home in Ireland on an RTE News interview. They are 3 Irish republicans charged in Colombia with aiding the FARC -they were convicted on appeal and face sentences of 22 years there. However they jumped bail and after several months have appeared back home in Ireland. Predictably unionists are demanding they be handed over to the Colombian state even though no extradition treaty exists. Below we reprint a Workers Solidarity article on their case. read full story / add a comment

Ireland's economic boom over the last decade has seen the migration of Irish workers out of the country in seach for work reverse and a large migration of workers into the country from all over Europe. Both multi-national and Irish employers have been taking advantage of the precarious position of such workers to focce them to work for low (and often illegal) wages and in harsh conditions read full story / add a comment

Every few months the Dublin WSM holds a meeting for people who are thinking about joining the WSM to come along and discuss this with some of our members. We've found this works well as people often have similar questions and it also means that those who decide to join do so all at once which makes it easier for them to integrate fully into the organisation. read full story / add a comment

Over 130 years ago the anarchist Micheal Bakunin wrote "I reverse the phrase of Voltaire, and say that, if God really existed, it would be necessary to abolish him." Writing of the Christian churches in Europe, he said "In talking to us of God they propose, they desire, to elevate us, emancipate us, ennoble us, and, on the contrary, they crush and degrade us. With the name of God they imagine that they can establish fraternity among men, and, on the contrary, they create pride, contempt; they sow discord, hatred, war; they establish slavery." These words today are applicable to Islam. read full story / add a comment

This article was for publication in Red and Black Revolution, Autumn 2005. News has just come through through of a Zapatista communique that appears to be a preparation for a return to war. At this stage it is not clear what is about to happen so I am releasing the article as I think it provides a useful background of events in the last couple of years and the sort of reasons why the Zapatistas might have decided to return to armed struggle. read full story / add a comment

From the recent Zapatista communique it looks like a return to war is almost certain. So for all those interested I'm calling an emergency solidarity meeting in 5 Merrion Row (above the Centra) for 8pm this Thursday. (I was involved in the Irish Mexico Group which has been defunct for some years. ) read full story / add a comment

The EZLN (Zapatista National Liberation Army) came briefly to the worlds attention when they seized several towns in Chiapas on New Years day in 1994. Since then most of the support the Zapatistas have received is strongly based on the idea that the Zapatistas are different. Different not just from the neoliberal world order they oppose but, more fundamentally, different from the armed revolutionary groups that exist and have existed elsewhere in the world. This study on the Zapatistas written by an Irish anarchist in 2001 explains this in more detail. read full story / add a comment

Coraz modniejsze stało się używanie terminu "globalizacja" dla określania światowej ekonomii i międzynarodowych stosunków politycznych. It makes no sense for us to oppose the EU on the basis of some sort of return to national sovereignty. Rather we must look for ways to create our globalisation agenda out of the process. The protests at the European Summits are proving one way of doing this read full story / add a comment

On February 3rd 1931, Italian police arrested Michael Schirru in a hotel room in Rome. He was Italian by birth but had become a US citizen. He had returned to Italy with one purpose, to kill Mussolini. Schirru was just one of many anarchists in the pre-war years who put their lives on the line in the fight against fascism. read full story / add a comment
