Em 25 de maio de 2020, George Floyd, um homem afro-americano de 46 anos de idade, foi assassinado por asfixia executada por um policial branco do Departamento de Polícia de Minneapolis (estado de Minnesota). O assassino foi o oficial de polícia Derek Chauvin, permanecendo por 8 minutos e 46 segundos sobre o pescoço da vítima. Os demais policiais, Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng e Thomas K. Lane foram cúmplices, sendo que Kueng ajudou a imobilizar o “suspeito”. O crime de George, tentar comprar cigarros com uma nota de 20 dólares, supostamente falsa. Para termos uma ideia de comparação, Donald Trump, o próprio, é um empresário picareta que quebrou seis vezes, entre 1991 e 2009 e “espertamente” não deixou na reta escapando das “leis”. Com bons advogados e excelentes tributaristas, o sistema de Justiça do Império é perfeito para o andar de cima. Desde então os EUA mergulharam numa panela de pressão, começando pela própria Minneapolis (ver https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Wz69m4hKsw) cujo estopim foi mais esse assassinato de outro homem negro. The murder of Floyd is not a once-off incident. Last year 1,099 people were killed by the US police, of which a sizeable proportion are black. 99% of these murders remain in absolute impunity –an alarming impunity rate only rivalled by the likes of Colombia in the continent, which goes to demonstrate how police violence, far from an anomaly, is condoned by the US establishment. We repudiate the cowardly murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis’s police officers, another racist act in the heart of a world imperialist power. This event is added to the countless number of killings of people of colour and the Afro-descendent population in the United States which has been perpetuated since the days of slavery and hasn’t yet stopped.
Racism, a structural element in capitalist society, especially in North American capitalism, is unfortunately intact, but resistance and fighting spirit from people of color and poor people arises in response. Repudiamos el asesinato de George Floyd a manos de la policía de Minneapolis, en otro acto racista en el seno de la potencia imperialista mundial. Este acto se suma a los incontables asesinatos de población negra en los EEUU, que se perpetran desde la época de la esclavitud y que no han cesado hasta nuestros días. En el gobierno de Obama fueron decenas los asesinatos de jóvenes negros/as que hicieron recordar hechos similares llevados a cabo en los años 50 y 60 del siglo XX. La respuesta fue una rápida irrupción del movimiento negro a lo largo y ancho del país, del mismo modo en que se desarrollan en estos momentos amplias manifestaciones que demuestran que la población está harta de la violencia e impunidad policial. Fue incendiada por los/as manifestantes la jefatura de policía de Minneapolis y atacados varios vehículos, hechos de acción directa se llevan a cabo en diversas ciudades con enfrentamientos con la policía, e incluso Trump ha dado orden de que el Ejército salga a la calle. Dieses Ereignis reiht sich ein in die zahllosen Morde an People of Color und der afro-stämmigen Bevölkerung in den Vereinigten Staaten, die seit den Tagen der Sklaverei weitergehen und immer noch nicht aufgehört haben.
