The main task of Anarchists is the same as always. We need to build rank and file organisation in the workplace and turn the union movement into fighting organisations. While our duty at the moment is to join the front lines defending indigenous people here and Black communities in the US, we must remain aware that our victory can only be achieved on another field. The rise of an authoritarian populist politics, which presents itself as against the “Establishment,”” for the “common” people and “anti-globalisation,” is happening worldwide — and there are dangerous signs in South Africa. The populist upsurge sees voters reject big, established parties that embraced neo-liberalism after the economic crisis of 2007, in the context of a retreating working class and left. During the discussion, the different analyses and future projections that each organization builds on this moment of world economic crisis were expressed. The crisis of the statist politics that dominated working-class politics -- social democracy, Marxism-Leninism, and anti-imperialist nationalism -- and the rise of neoliberalism, has aided the rediscovery of society-centred, anti-capitalist forms of bottom-up change “at a distance” from the state. This article critically assess the three main modes of “at a distance” politics: “outside-but-with” the state, which combines using the state with popular movements;  “outside-and-despite” the state, aiming at disintegrating the system by building alternatives in its cracks; and “outside-and-against” the state, associated with anarchism/ syndicalism, rejects the state for building autonomous working class counter-power that can resist, then defeat, state and capital. While each mode has limits, the anarchist/ syndicalist approach is arguably the most convincing, and its implications are serious. And it directs militants to work within the mass movements of the popular classes read full story / add a comment

Τέτοιες μέθοδοι εκπαίδευσης, που ουσιαστικά βοηθούν την παιδική ποιότητα και τη φιλοδοξία της γνώσης, θα αναπτύξουν μια γενιά με υγιή πνευματική ανεξαρτησία. Θα παράγουν άντρες και γυναίκες ικανούς, σύμφωνα με τον Francisco Ferrer, “να εξελίσσονται χωρίς να σταματούν, να καταστρέφουν και να ανανεώνουν το περιβάλλον τους χωρίς διακοπή, ανανεώνοντας και τους εαυτούς τους · πάντοτε έτοιμοι να δεχτούν το καλύτερο, ευτυχισμένοι με το θρίαμβο των νέων ιδεών, που φιλοδοξούν να ζήσουν πολλές ζωές σε μια μόνο”. Σε αυτούς τους άνδρες και γυναίκες στηρίζεται η ελπίδα της ανθρώπινης προόδου. Σε αυτούς ανήκει το μέλλον. Και είναι, σε πολύ σημαντικό βαθμό, με τη δική μας δικαιοδοσία που πρέπει να ανοίξουμε το δρόμο. Il 2020 è iniziato con alcuni cambiamenti a livello regionale, e soprattutto con la continuità dell'enorme e incredibile mobilitazione del popolo cileno. Quella rivolta popolare che ha attraversato più di 100 giorni ha cambiato la situazione sociale e politica di quel Paese, e ha avuto un impatto anche sull'intera regione. È apparso un nuovo scenario e, come abbiamo detto nell'analisi precedente, si inserisce nel quadro dell'enorme ondata di mobilitazioni popolari che si è dispiegata per le comunità latinoamericane (Haiti, Ecuador, e altri Paesi con minore intensità). Come si vede, è tempo per la gente in strada, questi sono tempi di lotta.
Allo stesso tempo, sta iniziando in tutto il mondo una nuova crisi economica che sta aumentando con il Coronavirus e il suo impatto sui mercati internazionali. La questione del petrolio e i suoi effetti sulle economie periferiche dell'America Latina possono avere un impatto anche sul costo della vita e sulla legittimità della tecnocrazia ultraliberale, che continua a far parte di questa nuova fase in tutto il nostro continente.
Ma la pandemia del coronavirus ha portato con sé anche una serie di cambiamenti in questa nuova fase, difficile e prematura da valutare. Tuttavia, il suo impatto ci costringe a discutere di una nuova situazione, una fase globale che sta cambiando con politiche di controllo di massa e misure repressive crescenti, ed è qui che i tre decenni di devastazione del neoliberismo diventano evidenti con il crollo della sanità pubblica e delle misure di sicurezza sociale.
Abbiamo diviso questa analisi in due sezioni: una prima dedicata alla mobilitazione cilena e ai cambiamenti sociali e politici nel continente; e una seconda con un'analisi preliminare sulla nuova situazione che si è venuta a creare dopo l'espansione di Covid-19. read full story / add a comment

The struggle against the coronavirus pandemic is one that can only be won by an act of unprecedented human solidarity. Through that act the values of a new world can be born. But turning those values into reality requires the working class. Only the working class: global, multi- racial, multicultural and gender diverse, has the potential strength to uproot the power of capital at its source and steer a new course. We can start by defending health and safety for all workers and by fighting for adequate resources for the health care system. We can extend the struggle by defending civil liberties and opposing austerity. And we can culminate it with a revolution to overthrow capitalism and create libertarian communism, worldwide. read full story / add a comment
