Have you daydreamed about being a member of an intergenerational social justice organization like the Order of Phoenix? Do you want Dumbledore to be your mentor?
Have dementors ever burned you out to the point where you doubted your ability to take on the Voldemorts of our world? Do you find yourself analyzing Dumbledore’s Army for lessons on developing liberatory vision, culture, leadership, and organization?

Me too. Let’s develop our magic, build our liberation movement, and defeat the Voldemorts in our world. I’ll meet you in the Room of Requirement, and until then, here are my top lessons from Harry Potter for social justice organizing.

The joint struggle of the anarchists against the wall with popular comities of the villages which persist in weekly struggles was promoted first time when a joint comity was organized and sporadic joint actions were organized by it. This month another promotion was done and a monthly convergence of all the activists involved - this time in Nabi Saleh was done. This week, the intensifying of the Israeli transfer efforts of Palestinians and the struggle against it was focused this week on the Praver plan to transfer in one step 40,000 Bedouins within the 1948 border. There were demonstration in various location in Israel picking in the more than thousands participant in Hura at the Bedouin region. The social struggle within israel which was al along the last two years in very low intensity seems to collect some momentum. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

The more the naZionist settler colonialist transfer efforts are frustrated by world's imperial powers - the more vicious are the efforts to implement them. The yielding to the European demand to sign the partial ban on investment in 1967 occupied regions are "compensated" by transfer efforts within the 1948 borders. The efforts to transfer in one step tens of thousands of Bedouins in the south is the most prominent one... and the rising rebellion encourage the activists within Israel. Around 300 Israeli activists - Jews and Palestinians joined more than 1000 local Bedouins demo in Saturday afternoon. Hundreds of state force personals who dispersed the demonstration after a long while - in response to stone throwing started by undercover secret service. This was an appropriate pick for the weekend struggle and joint struggles against occupation and the creeping transfer in the occupied west bank region. read full story / add a comment

As the value of Israel to the Imperial powers of the West diminishes, restraining orders are issued often. Though Israel is stalling and fighting for time, the bitter truth is starting to produce desperate exclamations and careless activities of accelerated transfer efforts - both in the occupied West Bank and within Israel (the Bedouins mainly). These days, the failure of Israel to ignite the fires of war in Syria and Iran, and the EU sanctions against the colonial settlement project in the occupied West Bank, seems to be marking a turning point. It seems that the joint struggle against the occupation and the B.D.S. project is starting to show more than localized success. So the joint struggle of the Anarchists Against the Wall with the popular committees climbs another step: the initiative of the popular committees which till now initiated sporadic activities, but are now initiating a monthly convergence of all involved activists. The state efforts to extinguish the struggle of grassroots communities has escalated lately using terror on the villages' populations in the hope they will put pressure on the activists to stop confronting the Israeli occupation forces. With one success - an end to the weekly demonstrations in Beit Ummar - they are still hoping for more. However, the escalation of the transfer efforts in a few choice rural areas seems to have the opposite effect. The frustration of the Israeli State is expressed in the huge transfer of tens of thousands of Bedouins within Israel. The heroic Bil'in, Ni'ilin, Nabi Saleh, Qaddum, Sheikh Jarrah, South of Hebron Hills, and the coordination committee of the popular struggle, are still adhering to the joint struggle with the Israeli Anarchists Against the Wall and other Israeli activists. The Arab Spring seemed to accelerate the turning of the wheels of history immensely... but the momentum lost gradually and as much as the hope had risen so is the following passivity after the excitement dissipated. In the joint struggle of the anarchists against the wall and the popular comities we had our own surge when the joint struggle had it excitement of novelty and some victories, but it lost its momentum when the higher comity of the popular comities sailed to expand the popular struggle. When the excitement and surge ebb we can still find the company of comrades and lean together our shoulders on the wheels of history who turn to slow on their axes... and continue persistently the struggle (Tsumud). Bil'in, Ni'ilin, Nabi Saleh, Qaddum, Ma'asara, Sheikh Jarrah, South of Hebron Hills and more keep the flame of the joint struggle. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

On one side we have the mounting international pressure on Israel to yield a bit. On the other side we have the increase in fear among the Israeli elite of the mounting pressure and the threats to increase it much more in the near future. In spite of that, or as a desperate response, efforts to speed up the creeping transfer by the regular Israeli forces and the irregular settlers have increased immensely. Israeli Bedouins face the prelude of the Farwer plan to transfer half of the villagers to concentration towns. Palestinians of the Jordan valley and of the area south of Hebron are being harassed and slowly pushed out. The demolitions and confiscations of houses in occupied East Jerusalem continues. And the joint struggle persists both in Bil'in, Ni'lin, Nabi Saleh, Qaddum, Ma'sara, Sheikh Jarrah, and South of Hebron Hills - and will never stop. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

The high tide of the social struggle in the world at large and in our region just two years ago with a lot of hopes has given way to disillusionment. The joint direct actions in Bil'in, Ni'lin, Nabi Saleh, Qaddum, Ma'sara, Beit Ummar, Sheikh Jarrah have diminished in size. Contributing to this is the stick-and-carrot policy of the Israeli occupation system. The significant increase of work permits to Palestinians within Israel and a lax policy towards "illegal Palestinians" who work in it, have contributed their share. The strict policy of the corrupt Palestinian authority does not promote hope and militancy in the grassroots nor among the Israeli radical people. Hope for approaching radical change due to international pressure on Israel and the low tide in both the general social struggle and the Palestinian arena has diminished the numbers and energy of activists involved with the Israeli Anarchists Against the Wall initiative. Just a glimpse of hope is brought by the emerging Israeli anarchist communist Ahdut (unity) group I joined lately. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

The tension in the air is high - waiting to see if the increased international pressure on Israel will yield some results. The contribution of Israel to the imperial powers is shrinking due to the compromises in Syria and Iran, and due to the diminishing dependency of US on the Mediterranean oil. The expected retreat of Israel from at least parts of the west bank increase the efforts of both the settlers and the state force to hasten the creeping transfer of the Palestinian peasants and shepherds from the Jordan valley and the Hebron hills. Israeli activists join (mainly on weekends) the Palestinian farmers to deter part of the harassments of settlers supported by state forces. The joint struggle in the usual locations the anarchists against the wall participate in continue. Bil'in**, Ni'ilin, Nabi Saleh, Qaddum, and even Sheikh Jarakh also draw lot of internationals. The Chinese curse "have interesting days" has materialized lately in our region. The surprising de-escalation of the Syrian chemical weapons and the Iranian atomic program has left Israel exposed to escalation pressures from Europe. In spite of the relative economic boom, the Israeli people and more so the downgraded "middle class", victims of the intensive application of neo-liberalism, are starting to express resentment. The media is vibrating with subjects related to the emigration of middle-class people whose nationalism is gradually being eroded by both neo-liberalism and the fear of the price of the continued occupation. This is not just a background to the joint struggle but also responsible for the burnout of activists. Though not at their peak, the weekly joint demonstrations and the involvement with Palestinian resistance to the crawling transfer continues. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

Like the fading sun of the Summer, there is now little time left to enjoy the last days of Eurostasis we have been enveloped in of late. The relative calm that descended on the Eurocrisis, with the brief exception of the Cyrpus panic in March, is coming to an end with the German elections this coming Sunday. read full story / add a comment

With the continuing tragedy that is the ILVA [1] affair, there are more and more frequent calls for nationalization as an answer to the arrogance and imperiousness of the Riva [2] family, a radical, class-struggle response whereby expropriation would save the day and, literally, both production and the environment. Just like when there used to be talk of nationalizing the banks. Pity it's not actually like that. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

The transfer of the Palestinians from the 1948 borders never completed. So, it continued on a milder crawling mode up to the present. One aspect was general oppression and harassment that resulted in the emigration of many of the Christian Palestinians of the north of the country. Another was the gradual transfer of the Bedouins of the south with joint struggle around the Arakib village and the Farber decree. Within the 1967 borders the transfer efforts are in the Jordan valley and the shepherd communities in the south with Susia as focus. More on the news were joint struggles along the separation fence - Bil'in, Ni'ilin, etc., and other places settler outposts and neighboring encroached on villages land like Beit Ommar, Nabi Saleh and Qaddum. Lately in the news: "In one tape, Mubarak is heard claiming that some six months before his ouster, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with him about a plan he was considering, to displace the Gaza Strip's population into the Sinai Peninsula." The Israeli State forces do not restrict their harassment to the suppression of direct actions, nor to harassment of the villages involved between the direct actions. They involve the military and civilian judicial system - harassment, extracting monetary fines, short- and long-term restriction orders, short jail sentences, and even longer sentences up to 18 months for Palestinian participants. Several dozen Palestinians have been murdered during the non-armed direct actions. Many Palestinians and about a dozen Israelis have been seriously injured. Hundreds of thousands of shekels in expenses for lawyers and fines have been paid and are still owed... Many participants have dropped out due to burnout but some who initiated the joint struggle and many who joined it along the years still persist. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

As expected, the post-holiday period will be a lively one thanks to the fifth "reform" of the pensions system in twenty years! But this time, the left is in power! But far from reassuring us, this fact is cause for concern as we know how clever the Socialist Party (PS) is at quietly getting through parliament things that would make the right blush. Consider for a moment the massive privatizations of the Jospin government (the equivalent of €31 billion in four years against "only" €26 billion of the Balladur and Juppé governments in the previous four years!). The transfer efforts continue in the Jordan valley, in 918 "fire zone", in locations less prominent on the news, and in the Bedouin region within 1948 borders. When the noise of the war drums is high, the increasing level of oppression in the 1967 occupation seems less prominent. Less and less people pay attention to or have hopes of the "peace talks" forced on Israel and the Palestinians by the imperial masters. The joint struggle continue in spite of the hot weather and the mounting Israeli terror. The picks of the joint struggle were in Bil'in where delegations from the other struggles converged to this week demo. The other pick was a big demo in Tel Aviv Saturday late evening where Bedouins from the south joined the more than 1000 participants from the main region of Israel. The turmoil in our region expresses the melting of world history as we knew it. It accelerates before it reaches its end as the axes of the old order cannot hold it any more. The Zionist settler colonialist bridgehead of the developed imperial countries in the cradle of human culture at the east of the Mediterranean Sea is being eroded by the resistance of the indigenous inhabitants who are recruiting supporters from all over the world. The cracks in neoliberal global capitalism, which seemed to have reached its ultimate victory just a few years ago when the end of history was declared, are pointing to the real end of the history of egoistic and alienated class society. In the day-to-day struggle here, it is still hard to discern the cracks in the structure of the system, but you can already smell it in the clouds of tear gas at the weekly demos and feel the ground tremor under your feet. The start of the "talks" and the release of old time prisoners was forced on Israel as Europe started the pressure on Israel following mounting public opinion and failure of US to protect its "venerable" client. The B.D.S. and involvement of Israeli and international Jewry neutralized the Israeli harping on antisemitism. The split within the Israeli elite when the scientific and advanced technology get the alarm of imminent punishment result in public cry. The financial establishment is second in line but still not in the open. The arms industry and high-tech seems to have business as usual and still do not change sides. The Israeli ruling elite seems to contemplate a new compromise with the Palestinian elite as business as usual reaching a dead end. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

Till now, even the more realists of the Zionist left who are for the retreat to the 1967 borders (with some amendments) insisted that retreat will be conditioned on final peace agreement in which the Palestinians agree that no return of refugees will occur. To day, the ex-chief commander of army and previous head of a big party of the parliament suggested to agree to temporary peace giving back 60% of the 1967 occupation committed to give during the following 4 years the equivalent of the rest with final peace agreement. As Palestinians who are not in areas targeted for transfer efforts have much better life, the motivation for popular struggle do not expand and even shrink - and so is the Israeli side of the joint struggle - in spite of the fact we see already the light in the end of the tunnel (or because of it).
