Riot on O'Connell street

Saturday saw a major riot in Dublin in response to an attempted Loyalist 'Love Ulster' march through the main street of the capital. For three hours hundreds rioted in the city centre, banks and shops were attacked and looted and cars were set on fire. All the political parties including Sinn Fein have condemned the riots but few have analysed what happened. This article first submitted to indymedia.ie suggests the riot shows that "he who sows misery, harvests anger". The author is an anarchist living in Dublin. read full story / add a comment

One is an apprentice plumber; another is on work experience as a cook at a cafe in nearby Aulnay-sous-Bois; one is claiming benefit; two are (sort of) at school. For five nights in a row, HB and his mates have been battling with riot police on the notorious Mille-Mille housing estate, buried deep in the high-rise suburbs that line the motorway to Charles de Gaulle airport. Xinhua has reported the death of the Chinese anarchist Ba Jin after a six year battle with cancer. In 1919 he was part of the Chinese anarchist group 'Company of Equals' that organised demonstrations against the warlords and distributed revolutionary leaflets. read full story / add a comment

The Ploughshares 5 are five anti-war activists who disarmed a US warplane in Shannon that was on its way to the war in Iraq. They will be on trial for this act on October 24th. In solidarity the 1st of May branch of the Workers Solidarity Movement are holding a fundraiser to help pay for the costs incurred by these activists due to this action. read full story / add a comment
