A short report by Melbourne Anarchist Communist Group (MACG) about May Day in Melbourne.

In Melbourne, the Anarchist movement traditionally has a picnic on May Day at the 8 Hours Monument across the road from Melbourne Trades Hall building.

This year, about a dozen class struggle Anarchists from various groups turned up. This was less than normal because of the wet weather though after so long in drought, nobody in Melbourne complains about rain.

Because of the weather, the picnic didn’t happen. Some retired to a nearby pub to celebrate May Day as a social occasion, while the rest stayed as a presence at the Monument for about an hour.

There are no pictures of which we are aware. The trade unions & the authoritarian Left weren’t there because they celebrate May Day on the first Sunday in May every year.

The Melbourne Anarchist Communist Group will be there as well.
