anarchists protest and call for boycott Encourage tourists to stop visiting Australia, Encourage international students to stop studying in Australia, Encourage Australia´s trading partners to stop trading with Australian. UNTIL The Australian govt passes legislation that recognises that asylum seekers have inalienable human rights. On the 8th of June we protested outside the Commonwealth Government offices at 4 Treasury Place in Melbourne and had the federal Treasurer Peter Costello do a quick jog past. Jump To Comment: 1I think boycotts are generally a waste of time and all too often adopted as an easy strategy.
This is a case in point - as bad as the racist Australian migration laws are they are not much worse than those of Europe or the US or possibly South Africa. Nor are they worse than say the US role in Iraq or the dictatorships of Burma, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Saudi or dozens of other places. Calls to boycott each of these also crop up all the time - it all becomes pretty meaningless.
I'd suggest looking for a strategy that might have an impact rather than just 'doing something' which really amounts to nothing.
