press release

The heavy climate of anti-anarchist provocation which is bearing down on Italy is also making itself felt in Sicily. Two containers full of petrol were left outside the entrance of the Caltanissetta Red Cross, with some anti-CPT grafitti on the wall nearby accompanied by a circled A. Following the discovery, the houses of several anti-racist activists from the Hurria Association were raided, but nothing was found. We send our solidarity to the Caltanissetta comrades who have been the targets of this infamous provocation. One or two things need to be underlined. The Pian del Lago CPT in Caltanissetta, which we have been struggling against, and will continue to do so - is not run by the Red Cross. Secondly, the provincial coordinator of the Red Cross, Ritalba Mazzè, has excluded anarchists, whom everyone initially rushed to blame, from responsability for the act and indicated in a statement that this was part of a series of attacks and acts of intimidation, more of a mafioso character than political, to which the Red Cross in the town has been subjected for many months now, without anything ever being done about it. All this serves to explain quite clearly the extremely torrid, ambiguous atmosphere which surrounds this case. For our part, we will continue as always to struggle against the CPTs wherever they are and to unmask publicly all those in Italy (including the Red Cross) who contribute to the management of these prison camps for immigrants. To provocateurs of all shades, whoevetr they be, we say that these tricks will not intimidate us and will not stop us from fighting for a society without borders, a society of free, equals.
Federazione Anarchica Siciliana 08/06/2005 Note: CPT stands for "Centro di Permanenza Temporanea" - detention camps where "illegal" immigrants are detained before being repatriated. |
