A curious article from the (British) Times sports section that cites anarchist theory to explain some of the problems of European football "Apply Bakunin’s logic to football and the argument goes like this: football, as an institution, derives its power from the big clubs and the big leagues because they generate the most money and attract the most fans. Therefore, they implicitly wield power over the institutions – Uefa, the football associations, the media – that govern football. The individuals at those institutions realise that their privileged position stems from the big clubs and the big leagues and because they want to hang on to the power they hold, they exercise that power accordingly, favouring the big fish over the small." |

Nixon's fall from grace, along with the story of corruption in high places, was the stuff of drama. In no time, the journalists at the centre of the Watergate exposé - Bernstein and Woodward - became celebrities. They went on to win Pulitzer Prizes for their journalistic endeavours and even became the subject of a Hollywood touch-up in All The President's Men. New Labour's plans to teach kids "traditional" values May 18 0 comments You can always tell when a government is on its last legs: it starts going on about "traditional values." It makes sense though. A regime which has lost the respect of the people will complain that people no longer respect "traditional values" (i.e. authority). To suggest that there are uniform values for the 60 million inhabitants of a nation as diverse as Britain is as ridiculous as implying that these values set us apart from other people and nations A review of the Peter Lennon Film - Rocky Road to Dublin Nov 03 0 comments 'The Rocky Road to Dublin' was released in 1968 but because of its content never got significant release in Ireland. It has been restored and is showing at the IFI (an 'art cinema' in Dublin. This is a personal opinion of how shocking the picture of 1960's Dublin society it portrays is. more >>Sorry, no press releases matched your search, maybe try again with different settings. |
