Anarchists have been writing on ecological issues since, at least, the 1960s. Murray Bookchin, who died earlier this year, lead the anarchist concern about ecological destruction with such classic works as "Post-Scarcity Anarchism," "Towards an Ecological Society" and "The Ecology of Freedom." His warnings have come true to a threateningly worrying degree. Sadly, his solutions are still ignored but that is unsurprising as they go to the heart of the ecological problem, namely domination within humanity as the recondition for the domination of nature and the nature of the capitalist economy. This can be seen from Nicholas Stern's report on climate change. The report's impact is, undoubtedly, due to it placing a money sum on the dangers of environmental disruption. Such is capitalism - people and planet can go to the dogs, but any threat to profits must be acted upon. Which is ironic, as it is the power of money which is causing the bulk of the problems we face. |

Jump To Comment: 1Why are you still marking time? If the eco situation demands radical moves what are they. Shall we demand that people in some other country turndown their heating for a few winters, that modern countries shall stop importing/exporting energy; that Everybody who is in a car stop and leave it; that everybody somewhere else than where we live do so. Shall we renounce science, since that is pretty radical. Or maybe we should invade some place that has a lot of resources not yet used up, kill everyone and steal their stuff (that is the American foreign policy) or shall we content outselves with saying we are doing all that can be expected of us and everyone else should follow our example, which is the Canadian policy,. at least as of Tuesday.
So what else have you got? All I see is the blind stupidity of mindless repetition of cant, left wing cant that is not all that much different from rlight wing cant.
You are not even as useful as the Sally Ann,. since they take some of the money they collect and set up places for detoxication and sleep indoors.
