Coordinating Council, Autonomous Action
The inter-regional gathering of various groups federated to Autonomous Action (AD) took place in Ivanovo on April 22-23, 2006. Representatives from AD-Moscow, AD-Minsk (Belarus), AD-Ivanovo, AD-Ufa and AD-Nizhniy Novgorod attended the meeting.
The participants addressed the following points:
- Participation of Autonomous Action to the upcoming G8 Summit protests in St. Petersburg
- financing of various AD projects
- various technical issues concerning the website, Situation newspaper, etc.
The delegate from Belarus gave a detailed account of participating in what took place in that country in March 2006. Next came local reports from the various AD sections of central Russia and the Ural that gave people a sense of the trends evolving at the organization.
One important result of the meetings came in the agreement on a need for a common program for Autonomous Action. The program is not merely a burocratic document - it facilitates organizational self identification and self awareness. People reached a decision to hold a special organizational convention in the summer of 2007.
This convention is to be distinct in that it'll serve as the venue for fleshing out Autonomous Action's common platform and require the attendance of delegates from all federated groups. Several delegates from AD's Coordinating Council said that they plan to propose the rescinding of AD membership for groups that do not send a delegate or a mandate.
An tense debate arose around the extent of the Coordinating Council's powers. Given the difficulty in resolving this issue the participants decided to postpone the final deliberations until the next meeting.
Discussion on the following question closed up this event: "How does one understand the social and political ideal of Autonomous Action and how can we reach that ideal?" All those present had an opportunity to contribute to the discussion on this question.
We'll publish a detailed account of the gathering in the next informational bulletin called "Samoopredelenie" N.8. The Council will distribute the bulletin to each federated group.
