Palestine-Israel, The third Intifada collect momentum with clear contribution of the joint struggle*

category mashriq / arabia / iraq | community struggles | news report author Monday January 21, 2013 20:39author by Ilan S. - AAtW, ainfos. Mazpenauthor email ilan at shalif dot comauthor address Tel Aviv Report this post to the editors

A lot of the Israeli activists in the joint struggle with Palestinian popular initiative were skeptical about the contribution of the Anarchist Against the Wall initiative. They fail to see its contribution to recruiting and encouraging the less radical Israelis into initiating and/or participating in joint actions with Palestinians. They fail to see the contribution and legitimization of the struggle in the world arena; they fail to see the contribution for publicity - both within Israeli mainstream media and the world (Fife Brocken Cameras nominee for Oscar), and most of all the creation of a security net that prevents Israel from suppressing the popular struggle in a bloodbath and the mass arrest of Palestinian activists. The later peaks of Bab al-Shams (the Gate of the Sun) camp in Jerusalem and Al-Karamah (Dignity) at Beit Iksa no-one can ignore. [Italiano]

Beit Iksa

A village in northwest of Jerusalem - a region where joint actions with the Anarchists Against the Wall have occurred over the years - took a new initiative: activists built a new protest village on Friday Jan. 18, 2013. They set up three tents and a small building in the area near Beit Iksa, naming it: Al-Karamah (Dignity). Around 400 performed Friday a demonstration prayers in the open area. An activist from nearby village Beit Ikza, said the camp was "a message to Israel and all democratic societies that we are human, and we want peace." Activists from across the political spectrum, mainly from nearby villages, have gathered and planned to sleep in the tents overnight.

Beit Iksa, surrounded by Israeli settlements, is set to be entirely encircled by Israel's separation wall, cutting it off from Jerusalem. Israeli authorities ordered lately the confiscation of 500 dunams of the village's land three weeks ago, and do not permit any new building in the town, while Israeli settlements in the region were still expanding.

Israeli forces immediately shut down the military checkpoint at the entrance to Beit Iksa to prevent more activists and supporters from accessing the protest site, witnesses said.
The tented village Bab al-Shams, set up to protest Israel's plans to build the "E1" settlement on the land, severing the West Bank from Jerusalem started a new dimension in the Palestinian struggle and that more protest villages would be established. "Today in Beit Iksa, tomorrow in other areas."

Sunday, the Palestinian outpost at Beit iksa is asking for Israelis to join them soon. If people can go please call k.

"Occupation soldiers “visit” Gate of Dignity (Bab Al-Karama) early morning, then close checkpoint, confrontations now going on. Media people and activists needed now on location and activists around the world can publicize.

It was too cold to sleep for most of us last night at the Gate of Dignity encampment and the army “visited” us early in the morning. Yesterday we had to overcome the Israeli checkpoint at the entrance of Beit Iksa but today the occupation forces closed the checkpoint and are attacking peaceful demonstrators with tear gas and stun grenades. Bilin

Friday weekly demonstration, Jan. 18, 2013. The demo was more lively than the previous Friday as we had with us the activists who went last Friday to Bab al-Shams...
The state forces who used along the years the demonstrations against the wall and occupation in Bil'in as testing ground showered on us a new kind of gas which cause breathing problem to most participants.

Nabi Saleh

Friday 18-01-13,
The weekly Friday demonstration in Nabi Saleh was dedicated to 16 years old Samir Awad from Budrus, who was shot and killed by the IOF earlier in the week. Protesters marched down the road towards the main entrance to the village when they were attacked with skunk water, tear gas and rubber coated steel bullets. Nabi Saleh youth have managed to push the IOF back down the road towards the checkpoint at the entrance of the village.
Reports are that Nariman has suffered a foot injury. No more reports as yet to her condition, except activists on the ground are attempting to get her medical aid.

South Hebron hills

"This Saturday morning, the Israeli army violently arrested 5 Israeli activists and 10 Palestinians in their privately owned lands the area of Qawais in South Hebron Hills. The arrests were carried out in order to prevent the Palestinian farmers from working their lands. Three of the women detainees are minors, among them a 2 year old.
Three Palestinians who were arrested in South Hebron hills yesterday, among them a mother to a baby and an elderly man, are still under arrest.

Due to the mass arrests, we were unable to accompany additional farmers who need our help to plow their lands. We need your help in accompany them tomorrow (Sunday). Besides being critical to the farmers livelihood, every season the lands are not plowed increases the chance of their being taken over by the occupation forces or settlers.
To join tomorrow, please call Ezra.
Please make an effort to come tomorrow. If you are unable to come, please circulate."
