CNT condemns police and institutional violence against students and workers in Valencia

With the intensification in indiscriminate violence on the part of the State police against students in Valencia who were protesting against education cuts, the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo publicly condemns these attacks and demands the immediate resignation of the Government Delegate for Valencia, Paula Sánchez de León.

Furthermore, as anarcho-syndicalists, we send our greetings and solidarity to all those who were injured, and to their families and everyone who came onto the streets over recent days to defend the public education system. We admire the courage of all those who, despite the repression, put aside their fears and demonstrated in order to defend a decent future for the sons and daughters of the working classes. Their struggle is our struggle.

We should also point out the hypocrisy of the Socialist Party (PSOE), which is now requesting an explanation of the police behaviour after years in which its government adopted the very same policy of repression against any social protest movement.

Finally, the CNT encourages everyone involved in the public education system to continue the struggle against spending cuts, and oppose the wild policy dictated by the market to put an end to our future with the power of assemblies and mutual aid.

Let the rich pay for the crisis!

No more repression! No more education cuts!

textSolidarity with the strike in Catalonia! Madrid against the repression of the Catalan people. 00:00 Wed 04 Oct by Several Organisations 0 comments

The unions and social organisations who support this manifest fully share the motives who are at the start of the call for a General Strike in Catalonia : the continuous loss of rights for the working class and the repressive situation with more than 800 wounded people, some of them in heavy states and more than 40 arrests from different State police corps. A loss of social and labor rights that can’t be tolerated.

On 16 December 2014, Spanish police launched ‘Operation Pandora’. Round-ups, searches, and arrests were carried out at squats in the ‘Casa de la Montaña’ district of Barcelona, at the libertarian San-Andres reading room, the anarchist Poble-Sec reading room, as well as 15 private homes.
Presently, 11 anarchists have been detained incommunicado by the state and accused of belonging to an ‘anarchist terrorist’ organisation (https://libcom.org/news/spain-pandora’s-box-17122014).

The repression continues after the general strike. This morning, while she was on her way to work, the Catalonian police arrested the Organization Secretary of the CGT-Barcelona, Laura Gómez and took her to the police station in Les Corts. They do not like the fact that every time there are more and more of us, protesting against the negotiation of labour reform and against the "social pact", not for it. [Castellano]

Madrid saw significant riots on Tuesday as police attacked the tens of thousands of protesters who had surrounded the parliament building to protest the introduction of more severe austerity cuts. A WSM member from the Spanish state explains the context, what happened on Tuesday and the demands of 'En Pie', the movement which called the protest.

The platform “En Pie” (Stand up), composed of a diverse group of left-wing political party members and 15M activists, had called a protest for the Tuesday 25th September at 19.00 in Madrid. The intent was to surround the parliament buildings (Congress) in the centre of Madrid, to show that democracy had been “kidnapped” by inept Spanish politicians, and to demand that all politicians inside resign and re write the Spanish constitution. ¨En Pie, Stand Up¨ is composed by a very diverse group of members of left wing groups and 15M activists.
