Pamphlet published for the 90th Anniversary Commemoration: 18th March 1921 - 18th March 2011 Zabalaza Books is proud to announce the publication of 'The Kronstadt Rebellion: Still Significant 90 Years On' pamphlet in PDF format to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the fall of the Kronstadt uprising. Over the last few years, many on the left have been trying to formulate a vision of socialism based on democracy. As a consequence countless papers and talks have been produced internationally about how socialism needs to be participatory if true freedom is to be achieved. Some have given this search for a form of democratic socialism evocative names, such as ‘Twenty-First Century socialism’, ‘socialism-from-below’ and ‘ecosocialism’. In South Africa the desire for a democratic socialism has also inspired initiatives such as the Conference for a Democratic Left (CDL); while even the South African Communist Party has outlined a need for a more participatory socialist agenda. (For a further elaboration on the CDL, and its resultant formation of the Democratic Left Front see the Zabalaza Anarchist Communist Front’s statement at www.anarkismo.net/article/18858) |

"Revolution", by Carlo Cafiero 05:27 Fri 03 Aug 2 comments Black Cat Press is pleased to announce the publication of "Revolution" by Carlo Cafiero for the first time ever in English (indeed nor has it ever been published as a complete volume in the original Italian!). The book brings what is certainly Cafiero's most complete, original work to English-speaking audiences for the first time. It is also an extremely important work in that it is one of the earliest attempts at compiling a complete theoretical view of the revolutionary ideal of anarchist communism. [Italiano] [Nederlands] A visit to the Kate Sharpley Library (2012) 20:48 Sat 21 Jul 0 comments I’ve just come back from visiting the Kate Sharpley Library in California. Things have changed from the days when I could get there on the bus and we were buying our first filing cabinet. Lots of filing cabinets now, as well as boxes like the Left Bank Books archive. It’s good to look at the non-fiction shelves, seeing ‘old friends’ and new acquisitions. Anarchism and Syndicalism in the Colonial and Postcolonial World, 1870-1940 14:30 Sat 15 Jan 0 comments Narratives of anarchist and syndicalist history during the era of the first globalization and imperialism (1870-1930) have overwhelmingly been constructed around a Western European tradition centered on discrete national cases. This parochial perspective typically ignores transnational connections and the contemporaneous existence of large and influential libertarian movements in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. Yet anarchism and syndicalism, from their very inception at the First International, were conceived and developed as international movements. By focusing on the neglected cases of the colonial and postcolonial world, this volume underscores the worldwide dimension of these movements and their centrality in anti-colonial and anti-imperialist struggles. Drawing on in-depth historical analyses of the ideology, structure, and praxis of anarchism/syndicalism, it also provides fresh perspectives and lessons for those interested in understanding their resurgence today. Of course he was not perfect. was a man, but a man who gave his all for the struggle of the oppressed, a revolutionary hero who deserves our admiration and respect. “From Bakunin, we can learn much about revolutionary activism. We can learn even more about the ideas needed to win the age-old fight between exploiter and exploited, between worker and peasant, on the one hand, and boss and ruler on the other. The greatest honor we can do his memory is to fight today and always for human freedom and workers liberation.” more >>October 2014 Kate Sharpley Library Bulletin online Oct 29 Kate Sharpley Library 0 comments KSL: Bulletin of the Kate Sharpley Library No. 80, October 2014 has just been posted on our site. The Kronstadt Rebellion of 1921 remains a significant event in history, even 90 years later. This rebellion was a turning point in the Russian Revolution, as it revealed the true nature of the Bolshevik government and their suppression of individual rights and freedoms. The rebels demanded an end to the dictatorship of the Communist Party and called for the establishment of a truly democratic system. Despite the tragic outcome of the rebellion, its legacy lives on as a reminder of the importance of preserving human rights and the dangers of authoritarianism.

I am very jubilant to read this. This is the kind of manual that requires to be given and not the desultory misinformation that's at the other blogs. Appreciate your sharing this best posting.

In early 1921, soldiers and sailors staged an anti-Bolshevik insurrection on the island fortress of Kronstadt, a few miles off the coast of Petrograd. The insurrection was in response to Bolshevik economic policies, food scarcity, political tyranny, and brutality.
