REBEL MUSIC AMERICAS

Musica Rebelde en las Americas

Political, Cultural Solidarity Tour

A day/evening of video, rabble-rousing & live musical performances...

Saturday, September 24th/05 3:00 pm
Koffler Auditorium (U of T), 569 Spadina Ave. (north of College)

3pm Video Screening (79 min):
This 2004 feature-length documentary, Rebel Music Americas (Productions Multi-Monde) by Marie Boti and Malcolm Guy chronicles the link between music and the social and political movements rocking Latin America. It features candid portraits of artists such as Lila Downs, Chico Cesar, Santa Revuelta and the displaced communities of Colombia's Choco province. Through the power of its music and imagery, the film takes you to the front-lines of Argentina's militant unemployed workers' ("piqueteros") movement, the Landless Workers' Movement (MST) in Brazil and the struggles of Indigenous peoples in Mexico and Afro-Colombian communities displaced by profit-driven war.
