... read full story / add a comment

... read full story / add a comment

The Howard government’s Workplace Relations (IR) laws will have a profound effect on female employees, because it is specifically directed at casual, part-time, non unionised workers. It is no accident that Spotlight has been able to offer its new staff 2cents an hour to ‘compensate’ them for the loss of overtime and leave loading payments. The meat workers at Cowra were able to fight off the company’s attempts to do the same to them because they were able to mobilise public opinion through their unions. ... read full story / add a comment

... read full story / add a comment
international / gender / other libertarian press Wednesday March 08, 2006 - 10:29 by Workers Solidarity Alliance (WSA)
On March 8, 1908, thousands of women left their jobs in the sweatshops of New

women and workers. In 1917, their sisters in Russia followed suit, and helped
to bring about the revolution that overthrew the Tsarist autocracy. And in
Spain in 1936 the anarchist women of Mujeres Libres helped to free their sisters
from century's oppression.
