On Saturday December 3rd, the international day for a climate action
march, the 500 strong Democratic Left Front contingent made up of
activists from different parts of the country, arrived at the Botha
Park Assembly point with its banners demanding: '1 Million Climate

The civil society march on the COP 17 was attacked by ANC Youth League thugs. This report is from a largely Trotskyist organisation but the eyewitness account of the 'green bombers' of the ANC Youth League attacking the march is important. Other more libertarian orientated organizations have long suffered the same fate in Durban. ... read full story / add a comment

[This was written in the 90's when I was invited to speak at the Bertha Capen Reynolds Society, around 1994 in Seattle,WA. Bertha Capen Reynolds was a socialist social worker who was inspired by the Seattle General Strike. The ending is lost to the dustbin, but it discusses many of the events that let to the most recent economic crisis. My theory of the transition period has evolved since then, but not too serious of mistakes. This is from a Marxist-Humanist perspective, based on the concept of the self-determination of the oppressed as force and reason. Unlike Marxist-Leninism, we see the masses not the party as the "vanguard" of the movement, or the element that creates the jump forward and from which the new stage of consciousness will arise.] ... read full story / add a comment

For a number of years now, the Bikehouse has been an established activist house in downtown salt lake. It's been home to punk rock kids, artists, vegans and alike. it's been a temporary home for hundreds of bands passing through town, or activists who need a place to crash while touring. It has been featured in a documentary by National Geographic, the book PUNKHOUSE, a number of independent documentaries and articles in papers all over the country. It has been a staple in the punk rock and activist community for nearly a decade. he ‘Palestinian Spring’ is the only one of the ‘Arab Springs’ to be announced from the General Assembly platform of the UN. “At a time when,” Mahmoud Abbas declared in his speech for UN recognition of Palestinian statehood, “the Arab peoples affirm their quest for democracy – the Arab Spring – the time is now for the Palestinian Spring, the time for independence.” This link between the bid and the democratic revolts taking place in the Arab world was repeated the next day in Ramallah. Abbas told cheering supporters who came out to greet him: “We told the world that there is an Arab Spring, but the Palestinian Spring exists here: a mass, popular, peacefully resisting spring that seeks to achieve our objectives…. raise your heads for you are Palestinians” (Al-Hayat, 26 September 2011). ... read full story / add a comment |
