You can always tell when a government is on its last legs: it starts going on about "traditional values." It makes sense though. A regime which has lost the respect of the people will complain that people no longer respect "traditional values" (i.e. authority). To suggest that there are uniform values for the 60 million inhabitants of a nation as diverse as Britain is as ridiculous as implying that these values set us apart from other people and nations ... read full story / add a comment

'The Rocky Road to Dublin' was released in 1968 but because of its content never got significant release in Ireland. It has been restored and is showing at the IFI (an 'art cinema' in Dublin. This article examines the mainstream media and looks at the various factors which ensure that it effectively works as a propaganda tool for the powerful. It looks at ways in which anarchists can deal with this situation, by creating our own media, but also by challenging the hostility that they habitually encounter from the mainstream. It is mostly based on the experience of the 2004 Mayday protests in Dublin. ... read full story / add a comment

This article using the example of the 'Dublin Grassroots Network' looks at how anarchists can interact with the media without compromising their principles. Perhaps the two biggest problems in dealing with the media are firstly that the media can, through the questions they ask and the pressures they bring, begin to set the political agenda of the group. Secondly servicing the media machine can take up all a group's time and energy (to the detriment of the other activity). ... read full story / add a comment

The Edukators comes bundled with enough hype and hope to prompt you into the IFI of an evening instead of lazily borrowing from your mates pirated DVD collection. Billed in reviews left, right and centre as an exposition of the political angst of a generation, the film provides a brief glance into the lives of Jan, (Daniel Bruhl), Peter, (Stipe Erceg) and Jule, (Julia Jentsch). Together they are three radicalised young Berliners, coping with the alienation of daily life in the city. ... read full story / add a comment
