In the aftermath of the January earthquake that devastated Haiti, greed combined with militarization of the aid effort have worsened the disaster. Traffic controllers at the U.S. military-occupied airport in Port-au-Prince repeatedly re-routed flights for Doctors Without Borders, while allowing planes carrying military equipment to land. White Baptist missionaries, claiming to be operating an adoption service for the earthquake's orphans, were actually stealing children from their parents. Meanwhile, cruise ships continued to visit Haiti, proving that the island nation could still provide a fantastic spot for rich people looking for a holiday in someone else's misery. ... read full story / add a comment

For more than 30 years, since the end of the 70’s, each year, without fail, progressives in NY have gathered to mark July 28, 1915, the anniversary of the first US occupation of Haiti, a 19 year occupation that made more than 15,000 victims, an occupation that radically changed Haiti. ... read full story / add a comment

américa central / caribe / imperialismo / guerra Friday July 16, 2010 - 09:34 by Esteban Ferreira Urrea   image 1 image
... read full story / add a comment

In consolidating the Haitian dominant classes and their state apparatus, imperialism plays a direct and indirect role in maintaining the dictatorship of the dominant classes on the masses. Imperialism intervenes directly on class struggles in the Haitian social formation. Its principal form of intervention is the consolidation of repression and oppression on the popular masses. Imperialists use many structural apparatus to directly partition and control the popular masses. ... read full story / add a comment

... read full story / add a comment

1968 till now...
This period is most important. Many things happened in this period that were totally different from the previous periods. This was not abnormal. Imperialist domination was consolidating and the general situation of the social formation was reaching a more critical stage.
Two important conditions marked this period. The Haitian dominant classes, especially the bourgeoisie, totally aligned themselves with the Duvalier regime. This rallying happened in a period of extreme, extensive and consistent repression on the working class movement, as well as the progressive cultural movement between 1961 to 1965. Soon after, the repressive Duvalier regime organized another period of heightened repression against progressives and communists, from 1967 to 1969. The secondary contradictions existing between Duvalier and imperialism were slowly becoming resolved. The American government consolidated its relations with the regime. Imperialism resumed economic and military aid. ... read full story / add a comment

95 years of domination is enough. Haiti is in worse shape than ever. Who needs help like this.Since capitalism reached the stage of imperialism, many imperialist countries started to develop relations with Haiti. From the onset, these relations were nothing else but relations of domination.
In order to better advance, I will divide this analysis into three periods.

... read full story / add a comment

Haiti seems to be the latest victim in the US efforts to recompose its imperialist hegemony in Latin America. Of course this direct US occupation is creating some friction with others that have interest in Haiti: France and Brazil, but that’s why the so-called “friends of Haiti” will meet in Canada on Monday 25th to deal with their differences and decide what way forward for Haiti –of course, without any real involvement of Haitians themselves.
