Λόγια της Έμμα Γκόλντμαν για την αναρχική Φάνια Μπαρόν, που εκτελέστηκε το 1921 απ’ την Τσεκά (μυστική αστυνομία) κατ’ εντολή του ίδιου του Λένιν (βλ. Fiel guardián de la revolución es el título del editorial del diario del PC de la URSS del
20 de diciembre de 1933 que celebraba el 15 aniversario de la creación de la Checa [siglas
rusas de Comisión Extraordinaria contra el espionaje y la contrarrevolución]. La primera frase
del texto es "El 20 de diciembre de 1917, a propuesta de Lenin, se organizó la Cheka, la
herramienta más directa e inmediata de la dictadura del proletariado [...] y cuando '...no
era posible replicar [...] de otra manera que por medio de una represión despiadada, rápida

The Russian Revolution in Ukraine (March 1917-April 1918) and Under the Blows of the Counter-revolution (April-June 1918) by Nestor Makhno [Review] Nestor Makhno is the best known face of the Ukrainian peasant anarchist movement which fought for free soviets against both the Whites (aiming to restore the old regime) and the Bolsheviks’ new state. These two volumes of memoirs (there’s a third one on the way) give Makhno’s account of his life between being released from prison by the February revolution and his return to the Ukraine to fight the German/Austrian occupiers, and of the roots of the Makhnovist movement. read full story / add a comment

Negli anni recenti, molti a sinistra hanno cercato di formulare una visione del socialismo fondato sulla democrazia. Ne è nata una pletora di giornali e di dibattiti a livello internazionale su quanto sia necessario che il socialismo debba essere di natura partecipativa se si vuole conseguire la vera libertà. Alcuni hanno dato a questa ricerca nomi evocativi di una sorta di socialismo democratico, quali "Socialismo del 21° secolo", "socialismo-dal-basso" ed anche "ecosocialismo". In Sud Africa la voglia di socialismo democratico ha suscitato iniziative quali la Conferenza per una Sinistra Democratica (CSL); e persino il Partito Comunista del Sud Africa ha sottolineato la necessità di un programma socialista più partecipativo. Over the last few years, many on the left have been trying to formulate a vision of socialism based on democracy. As a consequence countless papers and talks have been produced internationally about how socialism needs to be participatory if true freedom is to be achieved. Some have given this search for a form of democratic socialism evocative names, such as ‘Twenty-First Century socialism’, ‘socialism-from-below’ and ‘ecosocialism’. In South Africa the desire for a democratic socialism has also inspired initiatives such as the Conference for a Democratic Left (CDL); while even the South African Communist Party has outlined a need for a more participatory socialist agenda. Dziś Rosja rzadziej pojawia się jako temat wiadomości w mediach światowych. Serwisy takie jak Euronews, BBC, CNN rzadko poświęcają czas na opisywanie dużego terytorium położonego na wschód od Finlandii, a na północ od Chin. W pewnym sensie – to zrozumiałe. Nie istnieją w Rosji masowe ruchy protestu, nie ma strajków, zmian w rządzie, ani nic z tych rzeczy. Czasem powstają zakłócenia w dostawach gazu do Europy, ale wciąż dostawy są stosunkowo stabilne. Ropa płynie na rynki światowe, podobnie jak dostawy metali i drewna. Bogaci rosyjscy oligarchowie wciąż się bogacą (i przeprowadzają się do Londynu), a biedni wciąż stają się biedniejsi (i pozostają w większości cicho). Wygląda na to, że Putin pozostanie Carem w Rosji na zawsze. Jedynie od czasu do czasu coś wybucha i zdjęcia ofiar pojawiają się w mediach... [English] read full story / add a comment
