The Olympics Resistance Network is a space to coordinate anti-colonial and anti-capitalist efforts against the 2010 Games within Vancouver, Coast Salish Territories. Our organizing is based on the recognition that the Olympics is taking place on unceded Native land, and exists to create a movement for all anti capitalist, Indigenous, anti poverty, labour, migrant justice, housing, environmental justice, civil libertarian, anti war, and anti colonial activists to join forces. We come together on the basis of anti-oppression principles and with a respect for diversity of tactics. In addition to building ongoing educational and resistance efforts, we are working towards a convergence between February 10th-15th 2010, based on the call by the Indigenous Peoples Gathering in Sonora, Mexico to boycott the Games. read full story / add a comment

Cette année encore, le FRAPRU récidive et publie son Dossier Noir «Logement et pauvreté au Québec». Cette brochure, qui tente de montrer le vrai visage de la «belle province», révèle des chiffres préoccupants à défaut d’être surprenants. On apprend entre autres que les locataires ont, en moyenne, un revenu 16,6% plus bas quʼen 1981(toutes proportions gardées). Pendant ce temps, le loyer a augmenté bien au-delà du coût de la vie. Le coût des logements est tellement élevé que cela se manifeste par une augmentation importante du nombre de recours pour non-paiement introduits par les proprios à la Régie du logement : 14,4% depuis 2001. De 1995 à 2004, le nombre dʼévictions à Montréal a même augmenté de 120%! read full story / add a comment

Les 22 et 23 novembre dernier, des militantEs ont donné naissance à l’Union communiste libertaire (UCL). En une décennie de lutte, notre courant a eu le temps d’expérimenter et de maturer dans, mais aussi hors de la Fédération des communistes libertaires du Nord-Est (NEFAC). Le temps d’un bilan et d’une réorganisation tenant compte de cette expérience était venu. Plus qu’un changement de nom, l’évènement marque une étape importante dans le développement de la gauche libertaire au Québec.

By Saulo Araujo January 22nd, 2009 The Union of Organizations of the Sierra Juarez of Oaxaca (UNOSJO) - a longtime partner of Grassroots International based in Mexico - denounced a recently conducted study in the Zapotec region by U.S. geography scholar Peter Herlihy. Prof. Herlihy failed to mention that he received funding from the Foreign Military Studies Office of the U.S. Armed Forces. The failure to obtain full, free and prior informed consent is a violation of the rights of indigenous communities as codified in the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples adopted by the United Nations in 2007. In addition, UNOSJO fears that this in-depth geographical mapping of indigenous communities may be used in some harmful manner by the military. read full story / add a comment |
