mashriq / arabia / iraq / indigenous struggles / news report Thursday November 07, 2013 16:20 by Ilan S.
The Arab Spring seemed to accelerate the turning of the wheels of history immensely... but the momentum lost gradually and as much as the hope had risen so is the following passivity after the excitement dissipated. In the joint struggle of the anarchists against the wall and the popular comities we had our own surge when the joint struggle had it excitement of novelty and some victories, but it lost its momentum when the higher comity of the popular comities sailed to expand the popular struggle. When the excitement and surge ebb we can still find the company of comrades and lean together our shoulders on the wheels of history who turn to slow on their axes... and continue persistently the struggle (Tsumud). Bil'in, Ni'ilin, Nabi Saleh, Qaddum, Ma'asara, Sheikh Jarrah, South of Hebron Hills and more keep the flame of the joint struggle. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

The unions, and all working class organisations, need to come together to denounce the NT Intervention as the racist atrocity it is, and fight to end it. In the course of this struggle, we can develop a true movement of reconciliation. We can build a society which recognises land rights, and abolishes both wage labour and real estate. We can have a revolution. read full story / add a comment

The Union of Organizations of the Sierra Juarez of Oaxaca (UNOSJO) - a longtime partner of Grassroots International based in Mexico - denounced a recently conducted study in the Zapotec region by U.S. geography scholar Peter Herlihy. Prof. Herlihy failed to mention that he received funding from the Foreign Military Studies Office of the U.S. Armed Forces. The failure to obtain full, free and prior informed consent is a violation of the rights of indigenous communities as codified in the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples adopted by the United Nations in 2007. In addition, UNOSJO fears that this in-depth geographical mapping of indigenous communities may be used in some harmful manner by the military. read full story / add a comment
