As the third Intifada character is less dramatic than the previous two. At least at the first years, politicians and media commentators hesitating to declare it as such. After more lot of pondering on the subjects in the Israeli media, we heard this evening a new tag: "the signs of Intifada are already here". The escalation of the suppression of the Israeli state forces in the occupied west bank and their backing of settler colonialist terror activities last months, was not clear if it is only pre election thing or is intended to convert the unarmed third Intifada into an armed one. The unarmed Intifada expand gradually with the solidarity with the hunger striking prisoners at its focus. To the older locations of Beit Ummar, Bil'in, Ma'asarah, Nabi Saleh, Ni'ilin, Qadum, Sheikh Jarah, and South of Hebron Hills, and south-west joined last weeks Jayyus and Jaffa. The terrain is changing beneath our feet. Since the collapse of the majority of the “official communist” regimes, the world has witnessed both events and ideas that have undermined the former dominant thinking within the left. The Zapatistas, Argentina in 2001, South Korean workers movements, Oaxaca in 2006, the struggles around anti-globalization, and Greece’s series of insurrectionary moments have increasingly presented challenges to traditional left answers to movements and organization. In previous eras Marxist-Leninism was the nexus which all currents by default had to respond to either in agreement or critique. Today, increasingly anarchist practices and theory have come to play this role.

As a member of an anarchist political organization, a friend once told me I in fact was practicing democratic centralism. This was perplexing, because the group had no resembling structures, practices, or the associated behaviors of democratic centralism. However, I was told that since we debated, came to common decisions, and acted on that collective democracy, we were in fact democratic centralist. This kind of productive confusion led to questions about the concept, and why the target of democratic centralism has shifted. This move, the shifting conceptual territory of core concepts of a certain orthodoxy, comes up repeatedly not only with democratic centralism, but also surrounding ideas like crisis, dialectics, the State, and class. The resulting cognitive dissonance caused me to investigate attempts at reinvigorating the concept of democratic centralism (democratic centralist revisionism), and understand truly what it is, where it came from, and how it has been practiced. read full story / add a comment

Though the imperial powers tolerance for the Israeli repression and transfer diminish, Israel mainly respond with uneasy disregard. The world as large and even us within are waiting to see if there really was a shift in the blanc of power within the Israeli ruling elite and if the political turbulence in the region will contribute to any improvement in the Palestine-Israeli struggle. It is not clear if the intensification of Israeli transfer and repression efforts are just the last spasm of a dead end or a more desperate line of disregard of reality. In a month or two the picture may clear and till then, the old Tsumud (persistence) will continue. The intensification of the activities of the higher comity of grass root popular comities - mainly in the weekly "tent villages projects" started in Bab Al-Shams may be more than just an expression of optimism. It was not just the coming Israeli elections that Israeli settler colonialism intensified. It is part of the trend of last years in which the efforts to expand the settler colonialist project increase - as if to exploit the last opportunity. It is done within the 1948 borders - mainly with transfer of the Bedouins of the south. It is done within the occupied east Jerusalem. It occur in the C areas mainly near colonialist settlements and more so in areas intended to be annexed to Israel. In response, the third Intifada collect momentum and the anarchists against the wall are invited more and more to locations of joint struggles. The general election revealed that a substantial section of the capitalist elite start to distance itself from the costly settler colonialist project... But, it seems more international pressure is needed for a significant change. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

A lot of the Israeli activists in the joint struggle with Palestinian popular initiative were skeptical about the contribution of the Anarchist Against the Wall initiative. They fail to see its contribution to recruiting and encouraging the less radical Israelis into initiating and/or participating in joint actions with Palestinians. They fail to see the contribution and legitimization of the struggle in the world arena; they fail to see the contribution for publicity - both within Israeli mainstream media and the world (Fife Brocken Cameras nominee for Oscar), and most of all the creation of a security net that prevents Israel from suppressing the popular struggle in a bloodbath and the mass arrest of Palestinian activists. The later peaks of Bab al-Shams (the Gate of the Sun) camp in Jerusalem and Al-Karamah (Dignity) at Beit Iksa no-one can ignore. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

Bab Al Shams (the gate of the Sun) is a one step higher of the non-armed direct actions the joint comity of the villages popular comities involved in. The political parties that marginally support the struggle failed to co-opt it so far. The creativity of the joint comity rouse to an higher level in this action, forcing the Israeli state to disregard its pretension of law and order, and acted against its own higher court and destroyed the camp. The world media was "recruited" again to promote the non violent struggle against the occupation. In each village where weekly demos are done, few of the activist were left behind to keep the joint struggle going. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

Interwoven with the Western imperial interests in the region, the nationalist-socialists Zionists initiated the immigration of nationalist Jews to Palestine. It interwove with the Ottoman-German-British-US dynamics and gradually collected momentum. As one of the last islands remaining from the colonial era (mainly because it involved the big settlers community and served strategic interests), its time is running out.... and faster since the "Arab Spring". Sensing the end, the die-hard leadership of the Zionist settler colonialists - in a last desperate effort - continue as if the end were not in sight and even increase their onslaught with diminishing restraint. To the background of this month's election, the onslaught is collecting momentum over recent weeks - as if the third Intifada were what the Israeli elite wanted. The popular struggle collects momentum and more so at the weekends. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

Less than three weeks to the Israeli elections, the settler colonialists are raising the level of belligerence with state forces restraining... the Palestinians and increasing harassment. The international imperial powers are refraining from restraining Israel, waiting for the post-election era. The Palestinian elite is "holding its breath" and restraining the unarmed third Intifada it criticizes in the open. The approaching international pressure - both formal and non-formal - is making the Israeli elite very uneasy, like a person who is riding a tiger and fears for his life, thinking what will happen when he gets off. The popular struggles and the confrontation with the occupation forces is expanding gradually to more locations than the long-term joint struggles. [Italiano] read full story / add a comment

It was not a sudden eruption as the previous Intifadas'' uprisings. It is a gradual increasing of activities interwoven with the increased world wide involvement with the B.D.S. calls to boycott Israel. The Israeli security forces focus the threats and warning of the anarchists against the wall activists about our contribution to the de-legitimizing of Israel. The extreme right Israelis who sense the increasing pressures on the prime minister who tend to yield when pressure is too high, shift their support to the more to the right (and principled) party. The activities for the cleansing transfer of Palestinians from the choicest areas continue even when some steps are curtailed due to resistance and international pressure. I started the day feeling pessimistic about what would happen and even though on the whole, people came, yelled and then went home, I was a lot more encouraged by the days events than I thought I’d be.

That said, let me be clear that this is an accounting of the days events and not any sort of feeling of victory or satisfaction with the business unions’ approach or their marriage to the democratic party. This is an attempt to describe what I was seeing glimpses of, piece that are present, just below the surface in spite of the unions’ backwards ways.

This bill is only possible because most of the unions have not been organizing, have been acting in the interests of the bosses as much as in the interests of workers and have wed themselves almost completely to the democratic party, who hasn’t really given them a thing in several decades. I don’t dispute any of that and have had my share of experiences with unions that make me sick to my stomach. That said, I think it is incorrect to write them off as obsolete, having run their course or irrelevant. The hundreds of thousands of people who participate in their unions, despite their problems don’t think so and I think it is a mistake to dismiss those sentiments and commitments. That was demonstrated pretty well in what I saw on Tuesday. read full story / add a comment

The failure so far of the political efforts by the Palestinian Authority to bring substantial results may increase the accumulation of frustration to the point that it may explode. The initial increase of non-armed local struggles is approaching explosion point in spite of the call by the Palestinian Authority to limit the struggle to the international political arena. In addition to the locations of the ongoing struggles, other locations are initiating such struggles. Beit Nuba and al-Mufakara are just two examples. The intensification of harassment up to the use of live ammunition during weekday raids in Ni'lin and Nabi Saleh may be part of other harassment by the Israeli state forces, whose escalation seems to ber aimed at initiating a Third Intifada. The damage to the Israeli economy seems to be yet only marginal... but the margin expand now faster. Some of the firm already yield to the pressure targeted at areas in the settlements of the 1967 occupation and regroup back to the Israeli areas of 1948, in spite of the loss in government bribes and cheaper work force. The Israeli media is full with warning and even beginning of fear mongering. The connection between the joint struggle in the demos and the B.D.S. and the development of the boycott is acknowledged. Mean time the efforts to transfer of the Palestinians from key areas - the Bedouins in the south of the 1948 areas and in area C of the 1967 occupation intensify, as if they know that the opportunities to do it will end soon. Mean time, the non armed Friday demos are suppressed inconsistently with special treatment to Qadum. [Italiano]

Their borders screening which succeed to prevent the entry of activists is not much effective. The Israeli ruling elite is not in panic yet, but lately they worry a lot. He is dependant now on the support of the center-right party and the orthodox parties, and now he is trying desperately to regain control. The mounting pressure on Israel threatens to take a fast escalation. It is already expressed in the threat to expel Israel from FIFA and of intervention of the Hague Court. The French initiative in the UN security council is approaching. The escalation in transfer actions - both within Israel and the West Bank is an effort to recruit at least the support of orthodox parties and the extreme right. The B.D.S. which intensify the pressure not only worry the Israeli elite - it already caused a split in it. The split expressed in the initiation of law against the Netaniahu daily caused him to dismantle his coalition and call for election. The result was even worse for him. He lost the majority of the hard core right. The 61 (versus 59) coalition was achieved only with Kakhlon center-right that already blocked the main rightist moves and some of the extreme neoliberal tendency. A new power balance in the Israeli elite may result with a near future coalition with the pseudo left party Zionist List or even entirely different coalition without Netaniahu or even without the Licud party. With this back ground, transfer of Palestinians intensify - both citizens of Israel and in the occupy west bank... And the repression and struggle continue in Bil'in, Ni'ilin, Nebi Saleh, Qadoom, Ma'asarah, Sheikh Jarrah, South Hebron Hills and sporadicly in other places. [Italiano]

imageNotes towards a history of Italian anarchism in Egypt (by Leonardo Bettini, translation) Jun 12 by Leonardo Bettini 0 comments

English translation of the overview of early Italian anarchists in Egypt, from Leonardo Bettini, "Bibliografia dell'anarchismo, volume 2, tomo 2: periodici e numeri unici anarchici in lingua italiana pubblicati all'estero (1872-1971)" (CP editrice, Firenze, 1976), translation by Nestor McNab. Via Lucien van der Walt. Lucien van der Walt note: This is NOT a history of anarchism in Egypt as a whole, least of all of its important impact on the Arabic-speaking and Greek population, which can be found in work by writers like Tony Gorman. Nonetheless it is valuable, and not previously widely available in English. Worth noting for contemporary reflection is the destructive role of I. Parrini's [aka "Un vecchio” aka L'Orso /"the Bear"],"anti-organizationalism in disorienting the movement in the late 1800s. This was overcome in the 1900s, a period of great advance for the movement in the country. There is also much of interest, even if incomplete, on the role in the unions and popular education, although it grossly underestimates the successes, especially among the indigenous.

First of all, I should mention a couple of issues in Kurdistan of Turkey (Bakur) that are strongly connected to the subject. Between 08/05 and 22/05/15 I visited a number of big towns in Bakur, including: Amed (Diyarbakir), Van, Colemerge (Hakari) and Gavar. Later I returned to Suruc and was hoping to cross the border to Kobane.
My main purpose for visiting there were three important points: first: understanding the similarity and differences between the Democratic Self Administration (DSA) in Bakur and Rojava. Second: Reconstruction of Kobane, and third the type of economy that Rojava can have in the future. Although the friends in Peoples ‘ Democratic Party (HDP) , other organisation and the Working Committees of Rojava in Amed and Suruc tried hard to arrange my trip to Kobane but it did not happen.
There are two important issues to talk about. These are:
First: The 07th June general election in Turkey:

Unlike other places in Johannesburg, however, there were no reports of xenophobic violence in Thembelihle and, although the violence spread to numerous parts of Soweto in 2008, this adjacent township was unaffected then too. This article, based on an interview with an activist from the Thembelihle Crisis Committee (TCC), looks at how working class self-organisation and solidarity helped curb or prevent the outbreak of xenophobic attacks and attempts to draw lessons for preventing future attacks.
