El día 28 de Enero tuvimos oportunidad de conversar telefónicamente con el compañero Camille Chalmers, de la Plateforme Haïtienne de Plaidoyer pour un Développement Alternatif (Plataforma Haitiana por la Defensa de un Desarrollo Alternativo, PAPDA), desde Puerto Príncipe. Hemos transcrito las preguntas y respuestas que tuvimos la ocasión de intercambiar en medio de las dificultades propias que tiene la comunicación en estas condiciones. Las compartimos pues representan un aporte a la comprensión de lo que realmente está ocurriendo en Haití, nos entrega una visión que desmiente mucho de lo que se dice desde los medios oficiales y nos entrega una visión muy precisa sobre el tipo de solidaridad que el pueblo haitiano necesita -y al cual no podemos fallarle, ahora más que nunca. Μια λαϊκή παροιμία της Αϊτής λέει «Tanbou prete pa janm fe bon dans» («Ένα δανεισμένο τύμπανο ποτέ δεν παράγει καλό χορό»), δείχνοντας μια γενική συνειδητοποίηση του ποιος είναι ο πραγματικός ρόλος της εξωτερικής παρέμβασης. Καθώς οι προβλέψεις για τον αριθμό των νεκρών από το σεισμοί στην Αϊτή μιλούν για πάνω από 200.000, οι ειδήσεις στο ABC News ανέφεραν ότι τα αεροπλάνα που μεταφέρουν ιατρικό εξοπλισμό και εφόδια αρωγής πρέπει να αντιμετωπίσουν στρατιώτες για τον πολύτιμο διαθέσιμο χρόνο στο αεροδρόμιο του Πορτ-ο-Πρενς που εξαγοράστηκε από τον στρατό των ΗΠΑ μετά το σεισμό. Από την έναρξη της μεγάλης δημοκρατικής εξέγερσης ενάντια στο καθεστώς σκλαβιάς σχεδόν 220 χρόνια πριν, η Αϊτή έχει παρουσιαστεί ως μια επικίνδυνη χώρα ανίκανη να διεκπεραιώσει τις δικές της υποθέσεις και απαιτεί την ξένη επέμβαση. Haiti seems to be the latest victim in the US efforts to recompose its imperialist hegemony in Latin America. Of course this direct US occupation is creating some friction with others that have interest in Haiti: France and Brazil, but that’s why the so-called “friends of Haiti” will meet in Canada on Monday 25th to deal with their differences and decide what way forward for Haiti –of course, without any real involvement of Haitians themselves. The Haitian people and those who stand in solidarity with them, have to confront those who want who use this tragedy to rebuild the Haiti of the military occupation, the Haiti of the sweatshops and desolate fields, a Haiti where people starve and eat mud-cookies or a Haiti where makoutes are still masters of the streets in the major cities. We do not want to rebuild the Haiti of the sex tourism industry, or the Haiti of the neo-Duvalierist oligarchy, or a Haiti of chronic illiteracy. Nor are we interested in re-building a Haiti where children die before they are men or women from all sorts of preventable diseases. That is the Haiti which the missionaries of the rifle and the chequebook want to build. La toma por parte del ejército yanqui del Aeropuerto de Puerto Príncipe (capital de Haití), el toque de queda desde las ocho de la noche, y las medidas limitativas a la labor de periodistas extranjeros a cuyos gobiernos se les advierte que no se responsabilizará n de lo que les ocurra y que incluso podrían ser arrestados; son una muestra del cariz cada vez más reaccionario que evidencia esta ocupación militar. Además, esta situación extrema ha demostrado también que los cascos azules de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU), son un simple destacamento de avanzada del ejército imperialista de invasión internacional de las naciones oprimidas. As predictions for the death toll from the Haitian earthquakes rise over 200,000, ABC News have reported that planes carrying medical equipment and relief supplies are having to compete with soldiers for the valuable slots at Port-au-Prince airport which was taken over by the US military after the quake. Since the start of the great anti-slavery republican insurrection nearly 220 years ago, Haiti has been presented as a dangerous place incapable of running its own affairs and requiring foreign intervention. Yet the reality is its people were the first enslaved population to deliver themselves from slavery and also carried out what was only the third successful republican insurrection on the planet. The threat of this good example was rewarded with centuries of invasion, blackmail, the robbery of Haiti's natural resources and the impoverishment of its people. El pueblo haitiano y los pueblos que nos hacemos solidarios de él, no podemos menos que enfrentar a los que quieren utilizar la tragedia para reconstruir al Haití de la ocupación militar, para reconstruir al Haití de las “maquilas” y de los campos desolados, al Haití donde se comen galletas de barro y donde los makoutes[20] todavía son amos y señores de las calles en las principales ciudades. No queremos reconstruir el Haití del turismo sexual, ni el Haití de la oligarquía neo-duvalierista, ni el Haití del analfabetismo crónico. Ni tampoco nos interesa el Haití donde los niños mueren antes de ser hombres o mujeres por toda clase de enfermedades previsibles. Ese Haití es el que quieren reconstruir los misioneros del fusil y la chequera. Ese Haití, el Haití que describe la demencial “geografía” de Eduardo Galeano, ojala quede sepultado para siempre.
