In consolidating the Haitian dominant classes and their state apparatus, imperialism plays a direct and indirect role in maintaining the dictatorship of the dominant classes on the masses. Imperialism intervenes directly on class struggles in the Haitian social formation. Its principal form of intervention is the consolidation of repression and oppression on the popular masses. Imperialists use many structural apparatus to directly partition and control the popular masses. read full story / add a comment

For decades, Noam Chomsky has been an analyst and activist working in support of the Haitian people. In addition to his revolutionary linguistics career at MIT, he has written, lectured and protested against injustice for 40 years. He is co-author, along with Paul Farmer and Amy Goodman of Getting Haiti Right This Time: The U.S. and the Coup. His analysis “The Tragedy of Haiti” from his 1993 book Year 501: The Conquest Continues is available for free online. This interview was conducted in late February 2010 by phone and email.

The earthquake that shook Haiti on January 12th, also shook the consciousness and the heart of people all over the world, in whose eyes Haiti once again existed. It also shook our memory, since in between the press releases on this natural catastrophe, there have been leaks of the “social” catastrophes that have been suffered by the Haitian people and which are never taught at school. US and UN military occupations, bloody dictatorships backed by the Pentagon, embargoes and sanctions imposed by French and US imperialism, all of which have been as devastating as the earthquake. 1968 till now...
This period is most important. Many things happened in this period that were totally different from the previous periods. This was not abnormal. Imperialist domination was consolidating and the general situation of the social formation was reaching a more critical stage.
Two important conditions marked this period. The Haitian dominant classes, especially the bourgeoisie, totally aligned themselves with the Duvalier regime. This rallying happened in a period of extreme, extensive and consistent repression on the working class movement, as well as the progressive cultural movement between 1961 to 1965. Soon after, the repressive Duvalier regime organized another period of heightened repression against progressives and communists, from 1967 to 1969. The secondary contradictions existing between Duvalier and imperialism were slowly becoming resolved. The American government consolidated its relations with the regime. Imperialism resumed economic and military aid. read full story / add a comment

95 years of domination is enough. Haiti is in worse shape than ever. Who needs help like this.Since capitalism reached the stage of imperialism, many imperialist countries started to develop relations with Haiti. From the onset, these relations were nothing else but relations of domination.
In order to better advance, I will divide this analysis into three periods.

america centrale / caraibi / imperialismo / guerra / intervista Thursday February 04, 2010 21:22 por José Antonio Gutiérrez D.   image 1 image
On January 28th, we had the chance to have a telephone talk with Camilla Chalmers, from the Plateforme Haïtienne de Plaidoyer pour un Développement Alternatif (Haitian Platform in Defence o fan Alternative Development, PAPDA), in Port-au-Prince. Here we transcribe the questions and answers we could exchange in spite of the natural difficulties of communication in these circumstances. We believe his opinions represent a contribution to understand what’s really going on in Haiti, they contradict the official version of the media and give us a very precise notion of the type of solidarity that the Haitian people need –and that we should not fail to give.
