Así las cosas, ya tenemos un precedente de lo que se puede lograr a movilizar y unificar en vías al Paro Cívico Nacional, que ya comprende exigencias de carácter urbano como rural. La madurez de las organizaciones sociales y populares saldrá a relucir en un escenario de construcción amplio, capaz de construir programas de corto, mediano y largo plazo. Es decir, el Paro Cívico del próximo 25 de abril, deberá sacar a flote herramientas y estrategias para una serie de movilizaciones y agendas que hagan volver a encender la chispa de esperanza en las explotadas de la geografía nacional -y obvio, del mundo entero-, donde mundos nuevos sean posibles gracias a la autonomía de los pueblos, mediante la acción directa y la movilización social. Sin embargo, habrá que preguntarse por el papel y el trabajo de nosotras las libertarias en la construcción de estos mundos en un corto y mediano plazo con trabajo de base en barrios, campos y universidades. ¿Cómo nos proyectaremos para los próximos meses? ¿Qué plan u hoja de trabajo podremos construir desde nuestras afinidades y puntos en común? read full story / add a comment

The rise of the far right is a worldwide phenomenon, rooted in the nefarious effects of neoliberal globalization which have pushed the world into mass unemployment and enormous inequalities. I consider it to be a late political effect of the global financial crisis that hit the world at the beginning of the twenty-first century. It is not an easy task to explain the phenomenon of Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil and to understand the groups that support him, both within and outside government. It’s difficult, for anyone, to draw a truly complete and sober analysis of what we have experienced. This essay is not based on in-depth research but on collective reflections and debates. I intend to pose some key questions and try to identify some clues to answer them. read full story / add a comment

In the 1980s I participated in a "dialogue" about anarchism and Marxism. Re-reading my writing now, when I am a revolutionary anarchist, I think that much of what I wrote then was wrong--with one exception. I went over certain key issues, such as the strengths and weaknesses of Marxism, the state, the revolutionary party, election participation, and national liberation--topics which are still important for anarchists and other radicals to consider and debate. read full story / add a comment

Most strikingly, during its first 40 years of existence – namely the Cold War, NATO embarked on no wars or military campaigns. There is only one way to fight Fascism effectively, because the only force that can beat Fascism is the organised working class. We need a united front where all the Fascists’ targets come together in struggle. This united front necessarily has room for different political perspectives and a diversity of tactics, but as long as we can agree on the need to act together against the common enemy, it can be effective. Lekhetho Mtetwa, a member of the Zabalaza Anarchist Communist Front (ZACF) discusses his role in the Landless People’s Movement (LPM), formed in South Africa in 2001. While the LPM was affiliated to Via Campesina, and linked to the Landless Workers Movement (Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem Terra: MST), its activities centred on urban squatter communities, rather than farm occupations or organising alternative agrarian systems. Then-living in a squatter camp in Protea South, Soweto, Mtetwa served as the local secretary; by 2013, this was the key LPM branch. Several attempts were made by political parties to capture Protea South LPM, using patronage and promises, leading to the eventual implosion of the branch. Mtetwa provides an essential analysis of the rise and fall of the LPM, and the role that anarchists can play in such social movements. read full story / add a comment
