After a hectic day of action featuring secondary-school students, university students and striking sub-contracted copper workers (members of the miners' union, SITECO) on Wednesday 15 June 2011 in the centre of the capital city Santiago, a huge demonstration was held which brought together (according to conservative estimates) at least 70,000 people.
