Recent news stories have dealt with scientific findings about illnesses suffered by veterans of the 1991 Gulf War; see, for example, "Gulf War Syndrome is real, science panel concludes" by Mary Engel and Thomas H. Maugh II (November 17, 2008, http://www.mercurynews.com/nationworld/ci_11009917). The article below appeared fully eleven years ago in the radical Fifth Estate. read full story / add a comment

This as the obitury Goldman wrote shortly after the death of the anarchist Durruti during the Spanish revolution in 1936. "Durruti hounded before the glorious days of July 1936, like a wild beast from country to country. Imprisoned time on end as a criminal. Even condemned to death. He, the hated Anarchist, hated by the sinister trinity, the bourgeoisie, the state and the church. This homeless vagabond incapable of feeling as the whole capitalistic pack proclaimed." read full story / add a comment

An activity report from the anarchist publication the Vanguard in 1933. It gives a good insight into that time. Also includes extracts from their declaration of principles including We want to revive here, in America, the great anarchist idea of a revolutionary Vanguard, the anarchist idea of the role and place of an active revolutionary minority in the great mass struggle of today and in the near future. ...

I am submiting this in part, as historical backgound, to help understand the origins of a part of the US anarchist movement. Quite a few of us continue adhere to the traditional principles of anarcho-communism, while also adhering to the best traditions of anarcho-syndicalism as well.

In part the anarchist communist movement of the late 1970s and early 1980s in the US and Canada was very much a twining of anarchist communism and anarcho-syndicalism. Our initial efforst were a clear break with "counter-culturalism", non-class struggle and and anti-organizational anarchism.

This was best expressed in the formation of the Anarchist-Communist Federation of North America (ACF, 1978 to 1982.Aims and Principles: http://www.anarco-nyc.net/history/history8.html ).

I hope in the near future to write an article on one participants view of the ACF. But for now, please accept this article. read full story / add a comment

All class struggle anarchists in the NY area should make an effort to attend this important event. A large red and black presence will be a big boost to the Workers In Action comrades and will help keep the libertarian orientation of the campaign in the forefront and give notice to the reformist trade union coming on the scene that this campaign is grass roots initiated and grass roots oriented.

Bring lots of red and black flags, whistles and noise makers. read full story / add a comment
