We’re calling on our friends and comrades, brothers and sisters in national and international organizations to demand the reinstatement of [union organizer] Telemarque Pierre in his post immediately.

We demand the reinstatement of our comrade, Telemarque Pierre, immediately! Why should he lose his job just because he was doing union business for demands of a collective nature? We disagree with the minimum wage of 265 Gourdes ($4.21) the ADIH employers are pushing for. We will not be intimidated nor give up in this fight. The mobilization for a minimum wage of $500 Gourdes and other demands will continue with more vigor! We will rally on Thursday May 19, 2016 to continue our mobilization in front of SONAPI and march to the National Palace. read full story / add a comment

On the eve of International Women’s Day, so-called men’s rights advocates at the University of Toronto hosted an event confronting women’s studies and academic feminism. This was a follow-up to their event in November featuring self-proclaimed ex-feminist Warren Farrell, author of the book the Myth of Male Power. Warren Farrell is best known for his statements about women making false accusations of rape and his argument that incest can be a positive experience, if only women were not socialized to be victims. read full story / add a comment

A garment worker in Haiti was beaten up by a factory manager for demanding to be paid the (inadequate anyway) minimum wage of 300 goud per day ($7.06 US). Then he was fired. This factory produces goods for Gildan, one of the largest clothing companies in the world. The organizers in the factory call on international allies to express solidarity and to demand that Leo be given his job back, for the workers to be paid according to their rights, and for the manager who hit him to be fired. read full story / add a comment

On 24 November 2009 250,000 public sector workers in Ireland took part in a national strike against planned pay cuts. Many WSM members who work in the public sector played a direct part in the organisation of the strike and student members helped organise solidarity actions at the universities where strikes were happening. They also toured other picket lines to send in reports and photos. Here we present these reports and the reports sent in by members on strike who had access to smart phones with which they sent live news on the day to the WSM twitter feed read full story / add a comment

SENZALA OR QUILOMBO
Reflections on APOC and the fate of Black Anarchism

by Pedro Ribeiro from the Furious Five Revolutionary Collective

Note for our international comrades: APOC is the Anarchist People Of Color organization based mostly in the US.

In years past, when the slavery of the children of Africa was carried out by chain and whip instead of uniforms and patrol cars, black people in Brazil had only two places where they could be – in the Senzala or the Quilombo. The Senzala was their home; there they raised their children and grew old. In secret, they practiced their language, religion and culture away from white eyes. The window of the senzala would always face the main quad of the pl read full story / add a comment
