Ceci est une déclaration conjointe de First of May Anarchist Alliance et The Utopian: A Journal of Anarchism and Libertarian Socialism.
Nous devrions viser à convaincre le mouvement que le problème actuel aux États-Unis ne concerne pas seulement Wall Street, les entreprises ou le fait que le système économique est actuellement « manipulé » ou « truqué » par des individus égoïstes et rusés. Nous devons expliquer que la source de la crise c'est le système capitaliste lui-même, un système où la production n'a lieu que lorsqu'elle génère des profits qui sont ensuite en grande partie accaparés par la minuscule élite qui dirige le pays. Ainsi, nous devrions chercher à démontrer au mouvement que son objectif utlime devrait être la démocratisation radicale de toute notre société, ou, en d'autres mots, une révolution, par laquelle la vaste majorité de la population saisit des riches le contrôle de l'économie et du pays dans son ensemble pour ensuite disperser le plus largement possible le pouvoir et le contrôle direct sur tous les aspects de la vie sociale. Conséquemment, nous devrions proposer et appuyer les revendications radicales qui à la fois soutiennent cette perspective et unissent les secteurs de la population aussi largement que possible.

We should strive to convince the movement that the problem in the US today is not just Wall Street or the corporations or the fact that the economic system is somehow being “gamed” or “rigged” by tricky selfish individuals. We need to explain that the cause of the crisis is the capitalist system itself, a system in which production is carried on only when it results in profits, the vast majority of which go to the tiny elite that runs the country. Correspondingly, we should work to persuade the movement that its ultimate aim should be the radical democratization of our entire society, in other words, a revolution in which the vast majority of people seize control of the economy and the country as a whole from the rich and disperse power and direct control of all aspects of social life as widely as possible. As a result, we should propose and support radical demands that both point in this direction and unite the broadest sectors of the population. [Français]
