north america / mexico / anarchist movement / policy statement Thursday May 05, 2011 01:04 by C. Alexander
Over the last year the Michigan-Minnesota Group has begun to reconstitute ourselves from a long-time affinity group into an anarchist organization of struggle, First of May Anarchist Alliance (M1). We aim to build a trans-continental anarchist organization that is firm on anarchist core principles, adaptable to changing terrains of struggle with a mind set open to new ideas, influences and techniques. We intend to participate in a range of anti-authoritarian and anarchist formations as well as carry out our own independent work in broader arenas. We have some specific concerns and points of view that warrant an organized existence independent of any existing group. The following statement is by no means a comprehensive or detailed elaboration of our views. Its purpose is to give people some sense of where we are coming from. M1′s affinity is built around four principles: 1) a commitment to revolution 2) a working class orientation 3) a non-doctrinaire anarchism 4) a non-sectarian and multi-layered approach to organization read full story / add a comment

Mayday is not only a time to remember the sacrifices of so many before us who fought against all authority – capitalism and the state, patriarchy and white supremacy, empire and ecocide – but also a time to reflect on and celebrate the achievements of our movements today. In recent months the world has again been changed by the actions of masses of ordinary people. read full story / add a comment

We stand firmly opposed to the raids carried out by the FBI, America’s political police, against a number of anti-war and labor activists across the country on Friday, September 24th, 2010. We give our solidarity to those threatened by these raids and to those subpoenaed to appear before a government Grand Jury next month. These attacks must be resisted. read full story / add a comment

With this New Year we must search out and renew the actual promise for change and hope – that of broad based, independent social movements that fight with militancy and determination. Movements of individuals united on collective, anti-authoritarian, and anti-capitalist visions. read full story / add a comment

On October 8, 2005, Delphi Corporation filed for business reorganization under chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code... The following month during a November 2nd speech to union leaders, international United Auto Worker (UAW) president Ron Gettelfinger, called for a "work to rule" in which auto workers would do the bare minimum of labor required of them... Within days, militants from the auto industry gave meaning to Gettelfinger’s words. In a non-UAW sanctioned meeting auto workers said they would organize to fight Delphi. Using Gettelfinger’s statement as justification, the militants have embarked on a campaign to build a grassroots fighting movement whose aim is to engage and prepare fellow rank and filers for an unfolding struggle to resist corporate attacks – both within the auto industry and on the broader working classes. read full story / add a comment

SOS formed at a Dec. 4th Bay City, Michigan meeting organized by and for UAW rank and filers. The Bay City meeting was one of the early meetings organized to engage the UAW membership employed by Delphi and GM. The purpose of the meetings are to raise consciousness, solidify a base, and promote the idea of resistance to a) specifically, Delphi’s restructuring bankruptcy that entails plant closures, pension cuts, immediate wage lowering, and rolls over current labor contracts, and b) generally, the broader restructuring that the US auto industry is hoping to initiate, the results of which are similar to what is on Delphi’s agenda. read full story / add a comment |
