Last Thursday the European Court of Human Rights found that the Irish government had violated the rights of a woman living in Ireland who was forced to travel to Britain for an abortion. Abortion continues to be unavailable in Ireland and the court ruling was based on the failure of Irish governments to legislate for abortion under the 'X case' an infamous case from 1992 when a 14 year old rape victim X was prevented leaving the country to get an abortion in England. The WSM was centrally involved in the mobilizations that forced the courts to back down and allow X to travel and has continued to be involved in the pro-choice movement since that time. La autodeterminación de las mujeres populares inventó hace tres décadas una tecnología revolucionaria: el misoprostol como método eficaz y seguro para abortar fuera del hospital. Hoy, hasta la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) reconoce que el uso libre de misoprostol baja los abortos inseguros en los países donde abortar es ilegal, y apoya la difusión de información.

Ningún país que cree en los valores de la democracia, la justicia social y la igualdad puede legítimamente impedir que las mujeres aborten, que se organicen para tener una vida digna, libre de violencia, y saludable según las creencias que ellas mismas han construido y el sistema de valores que se han dado.

La legalización del aborto es una deuda de la democracia, porque la prohibición es un resabio de la dictadura cívico-militar oligárquica y eclesiástica contra el pueblo: las mujeres que mueren, que van a la cárcel, que son torturadas por lxs médicxs, lxs juecxs y los curas son las mujeres del pueblo.

En este libro trabajamos para devolver a las mujeres populares lo que es suyo: el conocimiento acumulado durante décadas de persecución y las tecnologías de aborto seguro que ellas inventaron experimentando con su cuerpo, la información pública respaldada por la ciencia. Twelve people were arrested at a private gathering in Extension 14 Vosloorus at about 03h30 on the 3rd of October 2010 by the Vosloorus Police Services. Most of the twelve arrested had just returned from the annual Johannesburg Lesbian & Gay Pride Parade to join birthday celebrations of a friend's mother. The twelve have been charged with obstruction of justice and attack on the police, a charge that they have denied to both the SAPS and their legal representative from Section 27, Advocate A. What I am writing is not something new, but I feel that the participation of women in revolutionary organizations is still minimal. As such, I feel a responsibility to urge women who are feeling stuck, alone, and are serious about being part of a larger movement of abolishing all forms of oppression to consider joining a political group.
