A garment worker in Haiti was beaten up by a factory manager for demanding to be paid the (inadequate anyway) minimum wage of 300 goud per day ($7.06 US). Then he was fired. This factory produces goods for Gildan, one of the largest clothing companies in the world. The organizers in the factory call on international allies to express solidarity and to demand that Leo be given his job back, for the workers to be paid according to their rights, and for the manager who hit him to be fired. read full story / add a comment

What constitutes a dictatorship? Haiti had an election in 2006, which the popular candidate won. It had an election in 2011, which had one of the lowest turnouts in recent history and which was subject to all kinds of external manipulation. Given these elections, is it unfair to call Haiti, a country that suffered 30 years of classic dictatorship under the Duvaliers from the 1950s to the 1980s, a dictatorship today? read full story / add a comment

The relative jubilee over Michel Martelly’s victory in the Haitian presidential elections after the statistical rearrangements by the Organization of American States soon after the primaries in March 2011 that had placed Martelly in second place was seen as a political intervention. Such intervention allowed him to square off against Mirlande Manigat, a conservative constitutional law professor and a former first lady who appeared distant from the social suffering of Haitians and even remotely out of date when compared to the flamboyant Martelly who was well coached and extremely ambitious to attain the pinnacle of Haitian power. read full story / add a comment

After years of strategic dialogue and an arduous process of electoral inscription, Puerto Rico can now count on an organized alternative, a political party that is committed to defending the interests of the working-class and marginalized sectors of the island's population. On November 6, 2012, the new Working People's Party (Partido del Pueblo Trabajador, PPT) will run 71 candidates, from governor to members of the municipal legislative assembly. “Breaking the electoral barrier” and “Puerto Rico should be governed by those who sweat for it” are the slogans that the PPT brings to the 2012 elections. read full story / add a comment

haitiun.jpg imagePozisyon Kolektif la sou demach pou renouvle manda MINISTA yon lòt fwa ankò 18:47 Wed 04 Sep by Kolektif Mobilizasyon Pou Dedomajman Viktim Kolera yo 0 comments

Nan moman kote bak peyi a preske chavire, otorite nan tèt peyi a ki santi yo konfòtab ak okipasyon an mete ak Nasyonzini, deside renouvle manda MINISTA pou yon lòt lane ankò. Pwosesis renouvèlman sa a rive nan yon kontèks kote peyi a ap plonje nan yon kriz san bout, kote kòripsyon fè de pou senk nan administrasyon leta a, nan ekip Martely-Lamohte la. Nou konstate pandan prezans fòs okipasyon an, zak vyolasyon dwa moun kontinye ap taye banda pirèd. Plizyè moun ki nan tèt leta a, gen non yo site nan anpil zak imoral, zak kòripsyon ak zak kriminèl. Arestasyon yon depite an fonksyon, Lanmò sispèk jij Jean Serge JOSEPH ki t ap mennen ankèt sou fanmi prezidan an pou dwèt long siperyè, divès zak pèsekisyon politik tankou tantativ arestasyon avoka ki sou dosye kòripsyon Sofia ak Olilivier Martely a, arestasyon Josue Florestal ak Enold Florestal ki te pote plent kont fanmi prezidan an epi bri k ap kouri pou kraze palman an, se yon seri siy ki montre aklè, gen yon machin diktati k ap deplòtonnen vitès li sou tèt peyi nou an. Li lè pou nou reveye nan dòmi pou bare wout okipasyon an ak konstriksyon dikatati a.
