At my old job, if we had formed a workplace committee that fought for everyday issues we faced at work we would have been able to win more support for the union organizing effort we were undertaking. If my co-workers had been able to feel a sense of power at work, a voice, hope, instead of despair and futility about the issues at work, then we would have seen it as the next logical step to form an official union while still carrying out our on the job direct actions. The way I see it, the best way to take collective action at work and to win the dignity, respect, and material gains we deserve is to form an autonomous workplace committee made up of only our co-workers and controlled by us.

We anarchists of the Bakuninist line are advocates of a specific revolutionary Organization which participates in the popular movements, seeking to insert our Libertarian Socialist programme in these movements and ensure that they proceed along anti-capitalist lines in order to abolish private ownership of the means of production and create horizontal and assemblyist popular power on the ruins of all that is called political power and the State. An Organization of this type is what the militants of the Alliance of the Libertarian Communists want to build and we are working daily towards the social revolution and the emancipation of the world.

The Capital Terminus Collective is a group of revolutionary anarchists in the Atlanta area who have a class-war perspective of society. We are calling for revolutionary anarchists across the southeast region of the United States to create this organization in our area. We will host a Founding Conference in Atlanta for a regional class-war, revolutionary anarchist organization on the weekend of July 1-3. Contact us to ask questions, make plans to attend, or to help organize.
If you are in Atlanta or the Southeast, get in touch with us by E-mailing: capitalterminus@gmail.com

The legacy of class struggle is anarchism's great strength, and its weakness. Race, gender and sexual orientation are lines along which the working majority is divided, inside and outside of the unions. In addition to the moral necessity of opposing all oppressions, is the practical reason to oppose them. As long as race divides the working class in the United States, for example, social revolution will remain a fond but distant dream. A united working class can win, but a divided working class is unlikely to.

Lucy has unfortunately been remembered mostly as the widow of the Haymarket martyr Albert Parsons, executed in Chicago in 1887. But this book reveals her activism to have started nearly a decade earlier and to have ended nearly fifty years later. For much of this period she was at the core of the revolutionary anarchist movement in the USA
One of the striking things about reading Lucy's writing is how relevant many of her comments are to the US anarchist movement today. As a frequent contributor to the anarchist press and the editor of the anarchist and pro IWW paper 'The Liberator' she understood how important a serious commitment to organization and large-scale publication was. |
