Friday June 12ths shock closure of the iconic Clery’s department store in Dublin shows how the law is set up to favour capital and screw workers. Workers are being told there may be no additional redundancy or owed holiday payments as the company is in debt. But this is only the case because right before the closure the largest asset, the building itself, was separated off from the accumulated debts. This was almost certainly legal under our system but of such obvious dubious morality that the workers could expect massive popular support if they occupied the building on a permanent ongoing basis. ... read full story / add a comment

This is as complete a story about what happened to 'Migrant X' that we are aware of.  Migrant X is a young migrant women who it emerged was refused an abortion by the Irish state despite apparently meeting the grounds of the X-case legislation and instead forced to carry the pregnancy and agree to a C-section.  The pregnanacy itself was the result of rape, Migrant X attempted suicide after being refused the abortion and later went on a hunger and thirst strike.  Once what had happened to her became known there were sizeable pro-choice solidarity demonstrations called across Ireland and at Irish embassies overseas.   We have been given information that the migrant woman at the centre of the current forced pregnancy was 'committed' to a psychiatric hospital following her initial request for termination. It’s already known that the initial request was made when she was 8 weeks pregnant.  It was this crucial period in which she was being held incommunicado which led directly to the Caesarian option being possible to impose as an ‘alternative’ to allowing her to access the abortion she had asked for. ... read full story / add a comment

In 2012 the attempt by the government to Quebec to introduce a 75% fee hike was defeated by the organisation of a mass student strike that lasted over 6 months. That fee increase was part of the global process of imposing the privatisation and commodification of education. Since the victory, organisers of the strike have been being doing speaking tours to aid the process whereby "youth and students everywhere are becoming increasingly conscious of the need to organize as a means to defend education as a social right". In September this tour reaches Ireland where we need to hear how a sustained and militant student movement that can win is built. ... read full story / add a comment

Saturday in Dublin saw another desperate attempt by the anti-choice coalition to prevent legislation coming to the Dail (Irish parliament) to allow abortion where a women's life is under threat. Despite months of preparation, a spend that must have ran close to a million euro, and the parish priest at every mass in the country telling catholics they should attend, less that 15,000 turned up. Compared to the 150,000 women who have had to travel to obtain abortions in the last ecades this amounts to almost nothing, a handful of bigots bussed in from all over the country. A large force of Garda and council workers were deployed at 3.30am today, International Women's Day, to clear Occupy Dame Street (ODS) camp. The camp was completely demolished in the course of the eviction, campers intimidated and their personal property stolen. This was a level of force way out of proportion with the numbers in the camp (about 15 people) and stands in contrast with the lack of resources put into investigating what happened at Anglo, the collapse of which has left a debt of 26,000 Euro on every single person in the country.   [Italiano] ... read full story / add a comment

textPalestine-Israel, The first serious crack in the Israeli Zionist ruling elite* 16:55 Thu 28 Jan by Ilan S. 0 comments

It is hard to assess what is the part of the joint struggle and the B.D.S. in the serious crack in the Israeli elite. It was expressed by the leader of biggest opposition party - The Zionist List which suggested a partial agreement of withdrawal (even from part of the expanded Jerusalem). Since 1967 war, all the years the official position was that Israel will retreat from most of the occupied territories of the 1967 war if the Palestinian will agree to a peace pact that will include among other conditions the non return of the 1948 refugees. As it was clear that no Palestinian leadership will be able to do that it was clear to all that the monolithic consensus of the Zionist parties is to continue the occupation for ever. It is not surprising that even the leader of the radical leftist Zionist party Merets oppose this radical suggestion for withdrawal with out the (non achievable) final peace pact.

The bad news are that the overwhelming majority of the Israelis support it - including the centrists and even the Zionist left (who claim they want "two states" solution but with impossible pre conditions). The good news are that the imperial powers whose support to the status qua are gradually yielding to public opinions pressure of their citizens who do not agree with the Israeli apartheid-transferor regime. The non armed joint struggle initiated wide attention and drew participants from all over the world with international movement dedicated to put end to the Israeli occupation. (A short video about two kids in Bil'in got in few days two million views.). The anarchists against the wall and other like minded among the palestinians and abroad still struggle for the end of the Zionist settler colonialist/transferor project and not just for the end of 1967 occupation. The Israeli authorities admit it have no solution or a strategy to stop or even restrict the third "unorganized" mainly individualist and of youth. The mass arrest of hundreds of under age children do not seems to have any effect. The transfer efforts do not stop, and even increase in the Jordan valley, area C, Jerusalem, and even within the 1948 borders. The controversy in the Israeli media is mainly about the admitting it is already one state and about initiating a better Bantustan order before international pressure will force a more substantial retreat from 1967 expansion. The B.D.S. media news are usually restricted only to dramatic additions in it. The Nebi Saleh community is in the focus of the efforts to stop the joint struggle and its Friday demos. In spite of it, the regular Bil'in, Ni'ilin, Nebi Saleh, Ma'asarah, Qaddum, Sheikh Jarrah, West of Hebron Hills are accompanied from time to time by other communities.

textPal-Isra, The one state the joint struggle try to change*. 14:08 Mon 30 Nov by Ilan S. 0 comments

You struggle when you have hope for a developing change. You struggle when you refuse to accept the present as the only possible future. You struggle even when the hope is low just to keep your dignity from evaporating. And there are people their rage is so strong that no reasoning can hold them back. Now, when the hope for a better common future evaporated, and the hope for a nice personal future is even lower, the anger of lot of youth is stronger than the preservation of life instinct... it is just waiting for a chancy trigger to pull another boy or girl and send them to a suicide mission. And the mighty Israeli state just start to admit that their brutality reached the wall it cannot overcome. The military elite already stated to reveal it in the open that the new emerging "individualist" Intifada cannot be stopped by force. For those who are not burnt out or desperate the non armed joint struggle is the only sane road. [Italiano]

imageAttacks on Foreigners: Only the Ruling Class Benefits Feb 01 by Siyabulela Hulu-Hulu 0 comments

Attacks on African and Asian foreigners flared up in South Africa twice in 2015, first in April, mainly in KwaZulu, then in October in Grahamstown, the Eastern Cape. Many attacks were on small (spaza) shops run by foreigners. Maybe 500 were displaced in October. The looting and smashing of property in spaza shops, and the immensity of these criminal activities country wide, has had an incredible and negative impact on our democracy, on our lives, on our livelihoods, and reflects badly on the nation's morality.

Many in the working class hope the 2016 local government elections will prove a turning point. The ruling African National Congress (ANC) won the 2014 elections easily, but its grip is weakening. The ANC-allied Congress of SA Trade Unions (COSATU) has split, the radical metal union NUMSA expelled. The ANC could even lose control of at least one of giant "metro" municipality in 2016, possibly greater Johannesburg or Nelson Mandela Bay - probably to the moderate Democratic Alliance (DA), not the ANC breakaway, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

textSedition, Subversion, Sabotage: Jan 28 by William T. Hathaway 0 comments

We'll be most successful by using both legal and illegal tactics but keeping the two forms separate. Illegal direct action is sometimes necessary to impair the system, impede its functioning, break it in a few places, open up points of vulnerability for coming generations to exploit. As groups we should do only legal resistance. Since we have to assume we are infiltrated and our communications are monitored, illegal acts must be done alone or in small cells without links to the group. Security is essential. Police may have the identity of everyone in the group, but if members are arrested and interrogated, their knowledge will be very limited. The principles of leaderless resistance (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leaderless_resistance) provide the most effective defense for militants.

imageAnarchism and the Continuing Struggle for Women's Freedom Jan 27 by Bongani Maponyane 0 comments

As anarchist-communists, we oppose sexism whenever and wherever it exists, although we also realise that class position differentiates the experience of sexism. We salute all the woman freedom fighters, and the older generation of women, many our mothers, who bear the scars of the gruesome battles in which they stood firm, fighting the oppression imposed on the African native by colonial conquest. There were hard times in the apartheid era, where black women were abused, raped and oppressed: the state did nothing to stop this, but aided it, as the state was part of the system of oppression. History shows that dispossession and systematic dehumanization for the purposes of exploitation and domination were undertaken through the uncontrolled and coercive mayhem of the South African state.
