Less than three weeks to the Israeli elections, the settler colonialists are raising the level of belligerence with state forces restraining... the Palestinians and increasing harassment. The international imperial powers are refraining from restraining Israel, waiting for the post-election era. The Palestinian elite is "holding its breath" and restraining the unarmed third Intifada it criticizes in the open. The approaching international pressure - both formal and non-formal - is making the Israeli elite very uneasy, like a person who is riding a tiger and fears for his life, thinking what will happen when he gets off. The popular struggles and the confrontation with the occupation forces is expanding gradually to more locations than the long-term joint struggles. [Italiano] ... read full story / add a comment

It was not a sudden eruption as the previous Intifadas'' uprisings. It is a gradual increasing of activities interwoven with the increased world wide involvement with the B.D.S. calls to boycott Israel. The Israeli security forces focus the threats and warning of the anarchists against the wall activists about our contribution to the de-legitimizing of Israel. The extreme right Israelis who sense the increasing pressures on the prime minister who tend to yield when pressure is too high, shift their support to the more to the right (and principled) party. The activities for the cleansing transfer of Palestinians from the choicest areas continue even when some steps are curtailed due to resistance and international pressure. The Villa Amalias squat has been an open political, cultural and social space, as well as a housing collective, for the past 23 years. In all these years there have been plenty of active groups in the squat including groups on theatre, concerts, musical studio, stained glass, kids’ space, dancing, foreign languages, computing, printing press, screenings, lending library, vinyl exchange – while the squat has also hosted plenty of political and cultural events by other groups. Apart from these activities inside its building, Villa Amalias has also contributed to the resolution of neighbourhood issues by participating in the residents’ assembly of Victoria square and by organising open, outward looking activities in the area – including open mic interventions, free markets, collective kitchens and kids’ events at the square. ... read full story / add a comment
north america / mexico / workplace struggles / news report Saturday December 22, 2012 - 03:00 by David
I started the day feeling pessimistic about what would happen and even though on the whole, people came, yelled and then went home, I was a lot more encouraged by the days events than I thought I’d be.

That said, let me be clear that this is an accounting of the days events and not any sort of feeling of victory or satisfaction with the business unions’ approach or their marriage to the democratic party. This is an attempt to describe what I was seeing glimpses of, piece that are present, just below the surface in spite of the unions’ backwards ways.

This bill is only possible because most of the unions have not been organizing, have been acting in the interests of the bosses as much as in the interests of workers and have wed themselves almost completely to the democratic party, who hasn’t really given them a thing in several decades. I don’t dispute any of that and have had my share of experiences with unions that make me sick to my stomach. That said, I think it is incorrect to write them off as obsolete, having run their course or irrelevant. The hundreds of thousands of people who participate in their unions, despite their problems don’t think so and I think it is a mistake to dismiss those sentiments and commitments. That was demonstrated pretty well in what I saw on Tuesday. ... read full story / add a comment

In a time when people are experiencing unparalleled hardship, Miami-Dade county is ramping up to steamroll more foreclosures. This news comes as rents are rising[1] in Miami spurred on by international speculators and investors, and people losing their homes. Nationally homeless is increasing due to the pervasive unemployment, sub-poverty wages of the lowest tier of the working population, and the multi-decade long attacks on housing safety nets. We are now witnessing a homelessness that includes young able bodied people some of whom are working while homeless[2]. ... read full story / add a comment

This afternoon the government had finally confirmed that it is to legislate for abortion access under the conditions of the X-case. While we can welcome the failure of the anti-choice movement to stop this announcement, despite frantically spending a quarter of a million dollars euro in ten days, this is so little so late that it is almost meaningless. ... read full story / add a comment

The failure so far of the political efforts by the Palestinian Authority to bring substantial results may increase the accumulation of frustration to the point that it may explode. The initial increase of non-armed local struggles is approaching explosion point in spite of the call by the Palestinian Authority to limit the struggle to the international political arena. In addition to the locations of the ongoing struggles, other locations are initiating such struggles. Beit Nuba and al-Mufakara are just two examples. The intensification of harassment up to the use of live ammunition during weekday raids in Ni'lin and Nabi Saleh may be part of other harassment by the Israeli state forces, whose escalation seems to ber aimed at initiating a Third Intifada. mashriq / arabia / iraq / community struggles / news report Tuesday December 11, 2012 - 14:25 by Ilan S.
After the mainly political defeat of Israel in the attack on Gaza and the following defeat in the US, the Israeli state forces repression of the weekly demonstrations was met with restraining orders. It was expressed in a few cases of small units of soldiers escaping from stone-throwing youth - the video of the most pictorial one played again and again on Israeli TV channels. Rightist "talking heads" complained that the fleeing soldiers insulted Israel and harsher measures must be taken. The more realistic ones pointed to the international loss of respect for Israel that harmed protesters would aggravate. In addition to the usual Beit Ummar, Bil'in, Al-Ma'sara, Nabi Saleh, Ni'lin, Qaddum, South Hebron hills, and Sheikh Jarrah, there was the addition this week of Kufr ad-Dik and Krayut. After years of persistent struggle the first cracks emit a more pleasant melody. The pains of the fallen, the injured, and these suffering more than others is softened a bit by the defeat of Israel in Gaza and the UN. It seems that the Tsumud, the resistance and the popular unarmed struggle start to change the flow of things in the international arena. We see it again and again that when the scales are in balance, even a small group of activists who persist in struggle can tip the scales. The joint struggle contribute its share in obstructing the efforts of the Israeli establishment to equate the struggle against Israel with antisemitism. The joint struggle even seems to collect momentum and more locations of popular and joint unarmed struggles are increasing. [Italiano] ... read full story / add a comment

Last night saw hundreds of pro-choice activists blockade the gates of the Dáil after TD's once more refused to pass X-case legislation. Twenty years after the X-case and one month after the death of Savita Halappanavar women in Ireland were told once more that the politicians had not had enough time. The political parties, in particular the Labour Party, were once more engaged in a cynical game of playing politics - a game that leaves pregnant women at continued risk in Irish hospitals. ... read full story / add a comment

In addition joint demos and actions in Bil'in, Beit Ummar, Ma'sara, Nabi Saleh, Ni'ilin, Qaddum, South Hebron Hills, and Sheikh Jarrah, there were actions of the higher committee of the local grass root communities and other localities - both in the occupied West Bank and within Israel with the war in Gaza as focus. The long struggle against the settler colonialist Zionist project was reviewed in the conference commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Israeli anti-authoritarian, anti-capitalist Matzpen, whose heirs are the Anarchists Against the Wall. In it comrades stressed again the difference between the struggles against aspects of the Zionist project like military rule imposed on the Palestinians in the past within Israel and now in the 1967 occupied regions, and partial gains in it, and real solution only the social revolution in the whole region will bring. ... read full story / add a comment

Now that President Obama is “safely” ensconced in the White House for another four years and “disaster Supreme Court decisions” are averted, liberal and progressive voters need to join radical activists in the fight against endless war, ecological destruction, and austerity. Obama no longer has an incentive to make any pretense of throwing a single crumb to liberals – resignation and acquiescence on “pragmatic grounds” will allow bargains that are hostile to the interests of the working class. ... read full story / add a comment

The joint struggle picked a new momentum. On Sunday 11-11-12 the general commanding the center of the west bank declared the Bil'in, Ni'ilin, Nabi Saleh, and Quaddum locations of joint Friday demos as closed military regions for our activists on Fridays. On Wednesday we expressed our defiance by joining the initiative of the general comity of the local grass root comities. The war on Gaza flared Wednesday afternoon and the anarchists against the wall activists joined the demos in the various locations in Israel.
