Last week a group of protesters started guarding action after some trees were taken down illegally in the name of urban gentrification projects. In the second day of the protest, very early in the morning, the police attacked the protesters heavily with gas bombs, presssured water and plastic bullets and wounded many protesteds. A spark began against this event of state terrorism and spread accross the country turning into a massive action and organized the big revolt. The public organized against increasing attacks, state terrorism and police violence and have been turning the streets into the area of resistance. This public revolt has been streaming for four days and is constantly spreading. [Italiano] ... read full story / add a comment
greece / turkey / cyprus / anarchist movement / news report Monday June 03, 2013 - 14:14 byDAF
This is just the beginning, the struggle is going on.
Revolt is out of time and space. For about 40 hours from Istiklal to Harbiye, from Tarlabasi to Besiktas the freedom of a rebellion is being felt. We come in to Taksim Square from Istiklal, after forty hours of clashes. Law enforcement officers run away with all their vehicles. Forty hours, forty years, the square has been a world for us.
This was the freedom of rebellion, maybe the most frightening slogan was that, this is just the beginning the struggle is going on.
Yes, our struggle is going on till we grow our free world, which we carry in our hearts. ... read full story / add a comment

The joint struggle started against the separation fence and its specific route which used to robe lands of villages and even to transfer them. The struggles brought some partial victories and promoted the joint struggle of Israeli activists, Palestinian grass root committees and internationals. The local, and more so the international awareness to the struggle against the occupation and the persistent efforts of transfer by Israel succeeded to slow the transfer but had not put end to it... nor to the occupation. The present focus of the joint struggle now is on the efforts to curb the gradual transfer efforts within Israel, area C in the occupied west bank, and the East of Jerusalem, and the international B.D.S. - Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions. Already 65 years since the Nakba and I still remember Deir Yassin and other bits of memories from 9 years before it. It took me too many years to put all of them together and overcome the Zionist and its national socialist (Marxist) brainwashing. For the last 47 years I've enjoyed freedom from Erich Fromm's "Escape From Freedom" and have tried to have the path opened for others. Participation in the joint struggle along with the popular committees is the best road to freedom for Israelis. Thanks to the Palestinian activists of Bil'in, Ni'lin, Ma'sara, Beit Ummar, Nabi Saleh, Qaddum and other villages who participate from time to time, with a special thanks to Mas'ha scene of the joint camp that started the joint popular non-armed struggle. The restraining orders regulating the suppression of the non-armed struggles resulting from the involvement of Israelis are being challenged again. [Italiano] ... read full story / add a comment

The famous scientist Stephen Hawking join academic boycott on Israel and support the B.D.S. The esteblishment lamented that the Wolf Prize in Physics of $100.000 bestowed on him 25 years ago did not buy his support for ever. The panic they developed and efforts they invested to minimize the damage point to the qualitative jump of the B.D.S. to an higher level. It is not the beginning of the end yet, but it is certainly the end of the beginning. The efforts invested in the crawling transfer - both the Bedouins within Israel, the Palestinian villagers in area C, and within occupied east Jerusalem seems to be a desperate moves to bust their dwindling moral. The transfer pressure in area C and the 1948 borders Negev intensifies. The colonialist settlers increase their terror, backed by the Israeli state forces. The increased popular struggle intensifies too and rightist calls for harsher repression are becoming louder. Not all those involved with the grassroots popular struggles are happy with the joint struggle together with Israelis, preferring to do without the relative immunity from harsher repression that we provide, and without our contribution for world public opinion. The ferment in the region has already decided that things will not be the same, but only popular struggle and international pressure will channel the changes to the better. Turkish state forbid Taksim Square for May Day this year same as three years before. During this “legal” May Day years, state tried to make people forget the real meaning of May Day. We know that May Day is the rebel day of the oppressed ones, workers and revolutionary people. It is the day we raise the anger against state and capitalists. As long as capitalism endures, the world will be wracked by economic crisis and war, but there is a solution. We can unite across national borders with a global movement against capitalism and all its ills. We can build our movement with federalism and direct democracy rather than authoritarianism and hierarchy. And we can make a revolution, forging a classless global society of libertarian communism, where a free federation of workplaces and communities replaces capitalism and the State. We can establish, at last, a world of liberty, equality and solidarity and it will be done by practicing the values of the society we wish to create. ... read full story / add a comment

The traditional Chinese course: "Have an interesting life" is fulfilled these months in the East of the Mediterranean: The elite in Syria massacre its rebelling people, the Israeli state continue with the cleansing of the Palestinians and have a second neo-liberal front with own people; Turkey just in the north cut the last ropes of the Ottoman empire and Egypt to the south is fermenting more than ever in its long long History. The elites of the European countries of the north who ruled and exploited our region for centuries start to feel and behave in the panic of tiger riders who fear that the ride is nearing its end and the confrontation with the tiger is nearing... Last Friday in Bil'in - the 426th demo of which I have participated in more than 400. As usual we were shot at with tear gas grenades and canisters, part of which I had to evade as they were shot in my direction. Part of the tear gas of the others I mostly evaded too. Now, on my chair in front of the computer I am taunted with the thought that I and scores of Israeli activists of the Anarchists Against the Wall initiative and others who participate in the joint struggle just got used to being shot at week after week. Some who are less lucky or less agile have taken more punishment than me... The Israeli media is used to it too, reporting on the shooting and us and the Palestinian partners as if it is just the weather. The banality of evil is the prevailing character of Israel these days, reminding more and more people of places and occurrences of other countries in other times. The Israeli state which failed in its year ago offensive on the Hamas in Gaza, suffer also from its diminishing bargain power in the international arena, manipulate the internal discomfort of public opinions by increasing the encroachment on Palestinian spaces - both in the 1967 occupied west bank and within the 1948 borders. The diminishing in the support of the Israeli elite to the prime minister Netaniahu and his group push him to increase his political gambling that can crash him in the first big loss. His failure to pass his Gas scheme and the civil case in court in which his wife is grilled, may be the first signs of his approaching doom. In spite the efforts to lower the social pressure in the west bank by increasing the employment of west-bakers within Israel the popular resistance increase both in the occupied Jerusalem and in the west bank.

textPalestine-Israel, The joint struggle really changed the world* 20:50 Sat 05 Sep by Ilan S. 0 comments

The failed arrest of 12 year old child in Nabi Saleh caused a million views storm in the media. This situation and the next Friday of the joint struggle demonstrated again how the involvement of the AATW Israeli Jews prevented in the past and prevent now the extinguishing of the non armed Palestinian struggle with rivers of blood. It was one shooting of Gil Naamati in 2003 in a joint action of the anarchists AATW that caused a real wide media scandal in Israel (which forced the higher commander of the army to visit him at hospital and apologize) that resulted in the change of shooting order about dispersing non armed demonstrations in the occupied lands when Israelis are involved. In addition to our helping to distribute the news, Our main contribution is the supply of "life insurance" to the Palestinians and even to the stone throwers in the demos.... though it is not perfect and along the years about 20 were killed and many more were injured. No one could predict that the joint camp in Masha 12 years ago of Israeli and Palestinian activists will ignite a wide movement of a joint non armed struggle which the Israeli occupying system will fail to extinguish. The thousands of activities and the tens of thousands of participates were not expected. Many small victories and the international B.D.S. warm the hearts of the not too many who persist in the joint struggle in spite of the mourning of those killed, empathy with the injured and solidarity with those arrested. The strong bond of partnership between the Palestinian activists and the Israeli Anarchists Against the Wall initiative was surprising. Disappointing but not surprising is the way the people of the Israeli anarchist scene refrained from adopting the initiative as the main recruiting mission. Bil'in, Ni'ilin, Ma'asara, Nebi Saleh, and Qaddum are still holding high the banner. [Italiano]

It is hard for many activists when the real meaning of the struggle are not concrete achievable gains, but a global worldwide struggle. This week, the concrete and the global merged when the struggle against the destruction of Susiya village recruited international support and forced Israel to delay or even cancel the demolition of the village. Pressure from the imperial powers on Israel was joined by European warning about approaching sanctions against the Israeli banking system for its involvement in the settlers' projects in the occupied West Bank. It seems the erosion of Israeli immunity from paying for its war crimes is collecting momentum. The Israeli media is full of news about B.D.S. - the joint struggle in which thousands of international activists participate, contributing a lot. The heroic Bil'in, Ni'lin, Nabi Saleh, Qaddum, Ma'sara, and Sheikh Jarrah keep the weekly flame from extinguishing. [Italiano]

imageBuilding a mass anarchist movement: the example of Spain’s CNT Oct 02 by Thabang Sefalala* and Lucien van der Walt 0 comments

The ideas of anarchism have often been misunderstood, or sidelined. A proliferation of studies, such as Knowles’ Political Economy from Below, Peirats’ Anarchists in the Spanish Revolution, and others, have aimed to address this problem – and also to show that anarchism can never be limited to an ideology merely to keep professors and students busy in debating societies. Anarchists have been labeled “utopians” or regarded as catalysts of chaos and violence, as at the protests in Seattle, 1999, against the World Trade Organization. However, anarchism has a constructive core and an important history as a mass movement – including in its syndicalist (trade union) form. It rejects the authoritarianism and totalitarianism often associated with Marxist regimes, and seeks to present a living alternative to classical Marxism, social democracy and the current neo-liberal hegemonic order. It rejects both the versions of Marxism that have justified massive repression, and the more cautious versions, like that of Desai in his book Marx’s Revenge, which claim that a prolonged capitalist stage – with all its horrors – remains essential before socialism can be attempted. It rejects the ideas that exploitation and oppression are “historical necessities” for historical progress.

imageThe State of Climate Change Oct 02 by Bongani Maponyane 0 comments

The planet is warming. This is not new to the earth’s history, which is billions of years old. But why the controversy regarding this fact? Does it lie in the association between climate change and the man-made contributing factors to this change? Is it because of the reality of the impact of the industrial age; the very foundations on which modern capitalism and empire has been built? Many within these industries spend billions on promoting the idea that climate change is a naturally-occurring phenomenon. But scientists around the world show convincingly that man-made fossil-fuel economies (economies built on the use of oil and coal, which release massive amounts of pollution and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, creating the greenhouse effect and global warming) have contributed, over a short period of time, to rapidly accelerating the usual naturally-occurring effect. The impact has been, amongst other things, rising sea levels, increased drought and destructive weather patterns. However, this knowledge has been met by a strong response from capitalists – and the politicians they fund – to throw doubt on the role and culpability of the industries that are causing the most damage (and have made them very rich and powerful.) They continue to fund “alternative” research and media propaganda to do so.

imageA Brief Introduction to Modern Day Irish Republicanism. What Can Anarchists learn from Modern Day Re... Sep 29 by Joe Conlon 0 comments

Anarchists can learn a great deal from Republicanism, to make inroads to establishing our ideal in working class communities. We need to create a visible presence in all communities, we need to be seen to be believed. People are looking for answers and are falsely thinking it lies in Republicanism. Within Republicanism lies much of the same which lies in bourgeois society – that is hierarchy and privilege for the few. But I believe the secret to the salvation of society also lies within Republicanism. That is the revolutionary tradition of revolting against oppression, tyranny, and exploitation; which the working class, the oppressed and angry, gravitate towards. And likewise I think Republicans can learn a great deal from anarchism. Maybe from working together on community or workplace struggles we could both learn from each other.

As much as this pains those who have participated in the anarchist communist experience between 2011 and 2014 in the Canadian prairies, today, Prairie Struggle announces its official secession and subsequent disbandment. To this day, Prairie Struggle was the only specific platformist organization in the Canadians prairies. Though some may recall the existence of an anarchist communist group in Regina affiliated to the ACF (Anarchist Communist Federation of North America) in the 80s, organized anarchism in the prairies has had many difficulties, some of which the Prairie Struggle Project has failed to overcome. Despite its downfall, Prairie Struggle, for one last time, offers a look into the organization, its failures and its small victories.
