The people of the region are starting to hold their breath looking forward for the middle of September reshuffle. Meanwhile, the usual locations of joint struggle: Beit Umar, Bil'in, Jerusalem-Al-Kuds, Silwan, Ma'asara, Nabi Saleh, Ni'ilin, South of Hebron Hills, and the inter Israeli social justice struggles continue. Though the main trend of the struggle against neo-liberalism austerity do not refer to the occupied Palestinian regions and Gaza, it does include the Israeli Palestinians which suffer in addition to neo-liberalism the suppression and discrimination and still advancing robbery of their lands. In spite of suspected inflammation in military clashes related to Gaza the social justice struggle continue - including a many thousands strong silent demonstration in Tel Aviv (5000 to 30000 according to various sources - my count was: "one, two, three, many"). The Israeli radicals and the Anarchists Against the Wall were involved this week in the social struggle uprising mainly but the joint struggle with the grassroots Palestinian activists did not diminish much in spite of the Ramadan daily fasting. About 80 tent camps - including 7 in greater Tel Aviv, and about dozen in towns with both Jewish and Palestinian communities or Israeli Palestinian towns. Beit Ummar, Bil'in, Ma'sara, Jerusalem/Al-Quds (Sheikh Jarrah Silwan), South of Hebron Hills, Al-Walaja, and Social Justice. [Italiano] ... read full story / add a comment

The involvement of the anarchists against the wall initiative (Shoulder to shoulder with the activists of Sheikhjarah solidarity net work) in the Joint struggle diminished a bit. The involvement in the Israeli uprising need attending to. Comrades are involved mainly in the Jaffa joint tent camp of Jews and Palestinian inhabitants and the Lewinsky camp of poor working class neighborhood. Though some "hold their breath" waiting for September UN activity, the local struggles intensify as state forces increase their efforts to put end to the joint struggle in Nabi Saleh, Ni'ilin, Wallage, and Beit Ummar. The Israeli efforts to curb the joint struggle intensify in Nabi Saleh and Wallage. Though the Israeli activists are involved in the social justice uprising, the Israeli Palestinians are not absent from it and the anarchists were not absent from their local tent camps and their block in the Saturday hundred thousands march in Tel Aviv. The on-going struggles in occupied east Jerusalem focused on Sheik Jarah; in the south - at the south of Hebron mountains; in west of Ramallah - at Bil'in, Ni'ilin, and Nebi Saleh; within Israel - at the Bedouin village of Al-Arakib. The announcement from the Irish government that households are to face a charge of €100 per annum from January 1st with separate water and property taxes to follow by 2014 has met with fierce opposition across the country.  Radio and television shows have been inundated with texts and phonecalls from irate people who see this latest tax as a step too far and who have been pledging to resist the charge.  In a TV3 IrelandAM poll this morning, Wednesday, 87% of people answered ‘Yes’ to the question “Would you consider boycotting the household charge?” ... read full story / add a comment

It seems the regional uprising of the people in the Arab countries injected rebellion energy all over the world. It is felt in the villages struggling against the separation fence, robbery of lands by colonialist settlers and the occupation. It has ignited within Israel a successful consumer strike after a steep rise in price of cottage cheese. It made the hospital internist doctors resist a compromise in agreement after a hundred-day plus partial strike and starting some direct actions and demos... forcing already the retreat of the medical doctors association from the compromise. It also started a widespread rebellion focused mainly on housing but with a wider spectrum from the beginning. In nine days from a start of a dozen tents in centra Tel Aviv to the 2,000-tent camp there and many other loca ones throughout the country, and from a few hesitant direct actions to a huge 200,000-march. (In the last two days, in spite of proposed state compromises, both the housing struggle and that of the intern doctors' have expanded and intensified.) [Italiano] ... read full story / add a comment

More than 20,000 people demonstrated for electoral reforms across Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital, on Saturday in a rare protest that was declared illegal by police. The protest was called for by opposition groups, including the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, Bersih. Police fired tear-gas and water cannons at demonstrators and arrested more than 1,400 people, including top opposition leaders, according to protest organisers. The activists' demands include an overhaul of voter registration lists, tougher measures to curb fraud and fairer opportunities for opposition politicians to campaign in government-linked media. Malaysia's next general election is planned due in 2013.  Anarchists were also present on the march and one participant sent us this un-edited brief report and the picture with this article ... read full story / add a comment

The joint struggle get second wind inspired by the Arab Spring both by the Palestinians and the Israelis. More and more people who were not in the anarchist scene join the anarchists against the wall initiative and other initiatives of joint struggle. More and more villages who were marginal the last few years in the struggle against the separation fence and occupation participating now frequently in the struggle. Within Israel, the Egyptian Tahrir motto crystallized in ferment in the Israeli young people who are not willing any more to pay the increasing price of the settler colonialist project. The regular locations of joint struggle within Israel: Al-Arakib, and Lod-Ramla; and Palestinian Beit Umar, Bilin, East Jerusalem, Ma'asara, Nabi Saleh, N'ilin, and South Hebron Mountain, were joined by this week by Budrus and Wallage. The first BDS call in Israel was initiated by Matzpen during the first year of the first intifada, in February 1988. It called for a boycott of the products of the colonialist settlements (see http://www.matzpen.org/index.asp?p=kria, in Hebrew). It played a marginal role in the political arena till the Peace Bloc (Gush Shalom) started to promote it (Do not confuse the radical, though sill marginally Zionist, "Gush Shalom" and the firmly left-Zionist "Peace Now", or Shalom Achshav). This prepared the background for the more radical call of international Jewry for "Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions", initiated by anti-authoritarians and anti-capitalists (and the anti-Zionist organization, Matzpen) and friends in 2001. (See http://matzpun.com). It took years for the Palestinians to adopt it in 2005, but then slowly drew more and more support from all over the world, including Israel which gave birth to the movement of "boycott from within". ... read full story / add a comment

Another stormy week of joint struggle was in the focus of the world media as the sailing flotilla was continuously sabotaged by Israel and other bribed states. The Flying Flotilla joined the sailing one this week. The usual locations of struggle within Israel: of Araqeeb, Jerusalem , Lod-Ramla, Ben Gurion airfield, Tel-Aviv, and occupied Palestine: Beit Ummar, Bil'in, East Jerusalem (Sheikh Jarrah, Silwan) Ma'sara, Ni'lin, Nabi Salih, South of Hebron hills, and the sporadic location of Kfar Karyut, Kafr Qaddum, At-Tuwani, and al-Walaja. The storm in the public arena around the sea flotilla, the Flying Flotilla, and the new law banning calls to boycott the settler colonial industries and Israel as a whole (BDS) show how a small number of activists can rock the settler colonialist project called Israel. It is this time of year again when the spectre of sectarianism and division comes to the fore in the north of Ireland. It is a time when communities, kerbstones and poles are marked and carved into territory. There are those who will be living in fear and silenced from speaking out while the rest of us are told to turn the other check in the interests of peace and stability. It is unfortunate, if perhaps somewhat inevitable, that the now annual battles around the ‘marching season’ fall along religious lines. The Orange parades are being used to test the supposed 'neutrality' of the northern regime and the PSNI in particular. The losing side in this dangerous game however is likely to be the working class, as the confrontations and the sectarian attacks that occur around the Orange marches drive people further into ‘their own’ communities.

WSM and other pro-choice activists took place in a counter demonstration to the “Rally for Life” which took place in Dublin on Sunday 3 July 2011. The anti-abortion rally was organised by Youth Defence (including “The Life Institute”(previously Mother & Campaign – an outgrowth of Youth Defense) and Belfast Based "Precious Life". Approximately 2,000 people seem to have attended. The pro-choice counter demonstration, organised at short notice was still attended by around 300 people. Many attending the anti-abortion rally came from all over Ireland and even included a small group of migrants from the Philippines. There were some tense exchanges between pro-choice campaigners and anti-abortion marchers. ... read full story / add a comment

This week, we have experienced the strange effect of a dream come true. A struggle of six years and 4 months forced the Israeli state to give back nearly half of the land robbed from the village Bil'in for the building of the settler town Modi'in Ilit. The removal of the old separation fence during the week draw lot of international and Israeli media. It stressed the contribution of the joint struggle of Palestinians and Israelis in Bil'in to this victory, to the promotion of similar struggles in the occupied west bank and to turning Bil'in into a world wide symbol. The celebrations, the dancing and the cheers could not mask the memory of the two comrades murdered in the Friday demonstrations, the hundreds injured (both Bil'inners, internationals and Israelis of the anarchists against the wall initiative) including few barely saved, the many who lost their freedom (up to a year and a half in concentration camp for Palestinians). During the years, the joint struggle against the separation fence and occupation has brought some successes, forcing the Israeli state to retreat a bit from initial steps of using the separation fence to annex Palestinian lands for colonialist settlements. However, the persistent struggles in Bil'in and in the nearby Ni'lin were in the focus of the media [and the intensive participation of this writer over the last six years.] Thus, with huge satisfaction we have seen the beginning of the move of the separation fence in Bil'in and the media report on it and the coming move of the fence in Ni'lin. The relentless joint struggle continues in the heroic Nabi Salih, in the persistent Ma'sara, in Beit Ummar, in the Southern Hebron mountain region, in East Jerusalem, and within Israel. It seems a routine that will continue for years to come, but the approaching September is in the mind of all involved. The naZionist settler colonialist project is continuing as if nothing changed but it is not so. The struggle continue every week end and in the week days too. In addition to Bil'in, Ni'ilin, Nabi Saleh, Ma'asara, Beit Ummar, Southern Hebron hills, the Jordan valley, East Jerusalem (Silwan, Sheikh Jarrah) and within 1948 borders: Arakib, Lod-Ramla, Jaffa, a new struggle front opened in Dir Quadis (located between Bil'in and Ni'ilin). On Saturday, June 18th, dozens of anarchists and other community members staged an angry protest against gentrification and green capitalism at Greenbridge, a “green” development of condos for eco-yuppies. Demonstrators held banners outside while others occupied the lobby in an expression of outrage against the displacement of renters from the neighborhood. Three people were arrested and charged with felony “inciting a riot” and misdemeanor property destruction, and have been released on bail. The demonstration drew attention to the ongoing tolls inflicted by the development, which was built by a coalition of multi-millionaires over the protests of community members to profit off the bourgeois craze with all things “green.” But money is the only thing green about Greedbridge, as it has been nicknamed by neighbors. ... read full story / add a comment

Week after week... sometimes day after day, the joint struggle continues. The years with no joint struggles, with no lively solidarity and no hope for better days will soon be nearly forgotten. People injured and arrested are not deterred. The inhalation of tear gas together functions stronger than any "ceremonial peace pipe". This week, in addition to the usual locations we also participated in the demonstrations in Kufer Malek, Biddu, at-Tuwani, and Shuqba. The joint struggle that started with the struggle against the separation fence has expanded and includes more and more locations of struggle against the colonialist settlement: Beit Ummar, East Jerusalem (Sheikh Jarrah, Silwan, Ras Al Amud, Issawiya), Kufer Malek, Nabi Salih, at-Tuwani, South of Hebron Hills.
