He expressed a generally patriarchal, even misogynist, attitude, which was the official view of the Nation of Islam. This is even though he respected a number of specific Black women for their strength of character. His attitude had an unfortunate effect on the Black movement which followed him, which had to overcome its anti-woman attitudes. (Of course, the Black radical movement was hardly alone in having difficulty overcoming male supremacy and sexism!)
