Learners Belong To The Classroom And Not Court Room

category southern africa | education | non anarchist press author Monday August 25, 2008 17:35author by General Secretary Sello M’Afrika Tladi - RADICAL YOUTH NETWORK Report this post to the editors

COSAS must learn to understand that education is the finest foundation for nation building and it is the key for national development of any country. COSAS tendency of distributing lessons has become intolerable and it must revisit its tactics .At this pointing time with only few weeks left for the grade 12 to start with their final exams, the leadership of COSAS (including that of the PYA) has behaved in a holiganistic manner wasting learners time to study, mobilising them to support the African National Congress president Jacob Zuma on his corruption case at constitutional court.

Education of our youth is very important despite the poor standard, learners have to be in class during this period and not supporting Jacob Zuma in his corruption case, the are very serious challenges that are faced by learners in schools that COSAS could be addressing and marching for. Free education, drug abuse, violence attacks in schools etc. We must argue the notion that the quality of education and the standard of living will improve under a Zuma presidency because Comrade JZ indicated in the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos that he will not change the ANC neo-liberal micro-economic policy.

The Radical Youth Network (RYN) demandS that COSAS t must apologies to the learners for wasting their time in an unprincipled march and this again indicates the lack of leadership within COSAS and PYA in giving the youth clear political direction. Yes, it is the right of PYA or COSAS to support President JZ but not at the expense of the youth. Time wasted is never regained. Education of these learners is not only about their individual careers but also the development of society and given the socio-economic status of South Africa

We know the that former COSAS president Julius Malema, couldn’t complete his high schooling due to the fact that he banked school lessons to cause chaos in the streets. RYN will never allow this unruly COSAS’s behavior of recruiting new colleagues for Malema. It is really clear that it is time for COSAS to close the shop and call it a day. They must weather away. Let the learners learn and fight for socialism after school while the loafers like Malema can spend their day in court supporting JZ.
