22 more US dates for Irish Anarchism tour

category north america / mexico | anarchist movement | feature author Wednesday April 02, 2008 03:22author by Joe Black - WSM (personal capacity) Report this post to the editors

With talks now delivered in 21 cities in the North Eastern USA and Eastern Canada the 'Building a Popular Anarchism' speaking tour continues to another 22 cities in the South East, Mid-west and the North West USA ending in the Bay Area. A decade ago the active anarchist movement in Ireland consisted of little more than a dozen people in two small groups.

Today hundreds of people are active and one banned libertarian demonstration in 2004 saw 5,000 people take part. Anarchists are increasingly replacing Irish republicans as the bogeyman of the mainstream media. This talk explains how this breakthrough happened and details the various struggles anarchists have been involved in.

About the speaker:
Andrew is an active anarchist organizer and writer, with twenty years experience in Ireland, most of that time as a member of the Workers Solidarity Movement. More recently, he has been become a member of NEFAC and is a founder member of Common Cause, Ontario. His publishing record includes well over one hundred articles, translated into over nine languages, chapters published in three books, and articles in seven English language anti-authoritarian magazines and newspapers. As well as numerous events in Ireland he has been the speaker at meetings in Britain, Italy, Canada, the Czech Republic and the USA and attended conferences in the Netherlands, France, Spain and Mexico. Contact your local anarchists or check their websites for details of exact times and venue but over the next six weeks this is roughly where the talks will be taking place.

Hey Andrew have fun in the south and west of the U$A!

The tour here in the North East was great and the event is well worth peoples time. I predict end of tour, surge in organized anarchism, popular revolt and social revolution not far off....
; - )

Really though go, see what organized anarchist political groups with a coherent strategy and dedication can mean to building a powerful movement with anarchistic outlook.

It would be awesome if the tour could come to Raleigh, NC...it's not too far away from DC. There's a place called the ACRe Space that you could use...but anarchists here are in dire need of some organization and this tour could help inspire that.
