Since yesterday one prison is almost completely under prisoner control and several others are to follow.

Yesterday (Monday 23/4), just after the call for lunch in the maximum security prison of Malandrino in Greece the prisoners refuge to enter their cell and climbed to the rooftop, armed with iron bars from their window bars. The uprising quickly spread to 9 out of 10 prison wings, which are now under the control of the prisoners.

The uprising began just after Giannis Dimitrakis was beaten by the prison guards without any apparent cause.

Strong riot police and special anti-terrorist police forces have surrounder the prison. The prisoners negotiate 12 demands with the local prosecutor and a representative from the Ministry of Justice.

Today 340 prisoners in the prison of Tripoli began a hunger strike and 200 prisoners from the prison of Patras have denied prison lunch. It is also said that an uprising has began in the prison of Patras but it is not confirmed.

AS LONG AS PRISONS EXIST NO ONE IS FREE

THE PASSION FOR FREEDOM IS STRONGER THAN THEIR CELLS
