On 21st October about 20 members of the fascist National Front assembled in Wellington, New Zealand/Aotearoa to hold their annual rally and were successfully opposed by 100 predominantly anarchist anti-fascists.

On 21st October about 20 members of the fascist National Front assembled in Wellington, New Zealand/Aotearoa to hold their annual rally.

For the past two years the rally was held at the cenotaph near parliament. This year 100 predominantly anarchist anti-fascists claimed the area before the NF were able to get there. Nearby construction barricades were formed into a ring around the cenotaph to keep the fascists out, though these were later removed by police. The police failed to find a leader to negotiate with and left just in time to intercept and protect the NF. The fascists gave up their original intention and were directed up to the empty grounds of parliament. This caused anti-fascists to abandon the cenotaph and scramble up a nearby bank in pursuit.

Outside parliament NF fuhrer Sid 'the squid' Wilson began a prepared speech on the evils of multiculturalism and the New World Order but was drowned out by chants from the hostile crowd.

After about 20 mins of making no headway, Wilson and his skinhead entourage retreated under police protection to the nearby central station while being pelted with bagels, spat upon and jostled. They waited for their train behind a line of police that formed up on the station platform, while continuing to be jeered.

Thanks to the efforts of anti-fascist activists, the fascist movement in New Zealand/Aotearoa is fragmented and marginalised and seems likely to remain so.
