Riots in Budapest demand government's resignation

category hungary / romania | repression / prisoners | news report author Tuesday September 19, 2006 20:13author by Joseph K. Report this post to the editors

Clashes have broken out in Budapest after the ‘Socialist’ Hungarian Prime Minister broke convention and admitted lying to get elected.

Thousands of mostly young protesters filled the streets to demand Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany’s resignation, after a tape was leaked in which he admitted "we lied in the morning, we lied in the evening" to get elected. A government minister confessed "the people are angry at a political leader who, for the first time, is telling the truth: that the whole political class was lying." The trouble began when riot police prevented demonstrators from handing in a petition at the state television building, causing protesters to storm, loot and set fire to the building, in a catalyst reminiscent of the clashes at the Budapest radio station in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. One protester said "tomorrow, twice as many people will come ... Nothing like this has happened since 1956." There are reports of 50 protesters injured amongst the tear gas and water cannon. A number of smaller protests also took place across the country.

There were many national flags on display amongst the demonstrators, and a memorial to ‘liberating’ Soviet troops in WWII was vandalised. Despite the comparisons to the ‘56 revolution and the chanting of ‘56!, 56!’ in the streets, the media are keen to portray those in the streets as right wing for their opposition to the ‘Socialist’ government, attacks on pro-Soviet monuments and the presence of national flags. Reuters reports that “at least some of the protesters [among 100,000] … were from fringe right-wing parties.” They quoted a member of a far-right group (too small to show up any information in a Google search) saying the protests were nationalist and against “foreign capital”, which seems out of keeping with the general anti-government mood in the streets. Politicians are talking about “an unprecedented crisis in Hungarian democracy” in the face of the first major street clashes since the collapse of the old Communist regime in 1989. The Prime Minister was quoted saying “the street is not a solution, but instead causes conflict and crisis”. As ‘politics’ overspills its proper place contained in the walls of parliament, the question is now whether the protests will grow and further dwarf the far-right elements, or simply continue as they are and act as an extra-parliamentary support for the main centre-right opposition party.

There is a small, but growing, opening in Hungarian society and we should not dismiss it as a right-wing plot. They are not the only ones capable and angry enough to attack the socialist regime. After all, the above comments are not all that far off from line the Russians used when they rolled their tanks into Budapest in '56: "Beware workers, there are counter-revolutionary hooligans amongst you!"

This report is from Hungary Indymedia:

National television under siege in Hungary kedd, 2006. szeptember 19. lajos

Angry demonstrators occupied the state television headquarters on Liberty Square in the heart of Budapest, Hungary. The people had been gathering at Kossuth square (in front of the parliament, pretty near to Liberty square) since Sunday evening, with the strong will to send away the government. Before that on the same day a record was leaked with a speech from Gyurcsány Ferenc, the prime minister. The tape was recorded during a closed meeting of the ruling socialist parties fraction in may, after they have won the elections.

"here is not much choice. There is not, because we fucked up. Not a little, a lot. No European country has done something as boneheaded as we have. Evidently, we lied throughout the last year-and-a-half, two years. It was totally clear that what we are saying is not true. You cannot quote any significant government measure we can be proud of, other than at the end we managed to bring the government back from the brink. Nothing. If we have to give account to the country about what we did for four years, then what do we say?” Gyurcsány Ferenc, prime minister "Content wise the yesterday leaked tape wasn’t a big news.” Sólyom László, president of state „In campaign season one could organize political gatherings without asking permission from the police. So as the police deems the demonstration is not illegal, told Gergényi Péter the head of the Budapest Police to one of the mainstream online portals.”

The rioters burnt cars at the building of the TV, they also attacked water canons, after the fight one canon was demolished and the police officers run away – they came back after two a.m. A few police officers were disarmed while the spokesman of the police told that 5000 riot police could arrive in every minute. The rumor with the arriving riot police was spreading quite fast – so that people quickly dispersed. After some hours riot cops truly appeared on site and people had to run for real.

Inside the building of the TV the people were looting chocolate automats, they were demolishing the interior, some people took out computers; and on the top of the barricade in the entrance of the building there was an empty shopping cart.

The protesters represented mixed political convictions. Many nationalists, football hooligans mixed with the crowd, on Kossuth Square it was mostly right wing, but when we were at the television, the normal non-fascist workers and ghetto kids were kicking one of the cars of the television, while lovers photographed themselves on the top of the burnt-out water cannon... around a smoking car some happy anarchists (the September Eighteenth) distributed leaflets.

By 5 o'clock in the morning, the police pushed out the few protesters who reamined in the building, and began investigating the scene on Liberty Square. Tonight people have switched off the television and took the street. The siege of the TV. The siege of the Spectacle.

The attacks seen last night were situated in 'Liberty Square' which is near the the Parliament and the US and Irish Embassies - no violence or property distruction was aimed at housing or people - just political targets like the state owned public television station, MTV.

Today will be the day when this will either bring down the PM or not. I'm not going to make bets either way.

sad for me to say but...
I'm sitting this revolution out

as ex-pioneer said to me - its for the right reasons but the wrong people are doing it.

This is not the 'Left' protesting in the streets but mostly the nationalist Right (the 'Left' is the government but theres nothing 'Left' about it) - members of Jobbik and MIEP [ http://jobbik.hu / http://www.miep.hu ] are most likely there tonight. I don't like them.

Also as backdrop to it all - next month is the 50th anniversary on the 1956 Hungarian Revolution that was so brutally crushed by the Soviets.

PM Gyurcsany did not only admit he was lying, but that lying was a campaign strategy to win the recent elections, plus he swore like a sailor and more or less called Hungary a Whore of a Country (rough translation).

I barely know the Hungarian language but watching and listening to Gyurcsany you will quickly know he's an arrogant and pompous man. This time he just went too far - but remember this was a speech made back in May in a private conference with the MSZP [ http://MSZP.hu (Magyar Socialist Party, formerly the MSWP) and was never meant for public consumption. So, the whole party is implicated in this speech since the entire membership listened to him admit to lying and.... laughed!

So yesterday and today and tonight and undoubtably tomorrow all over the country there will be more protests. News says people will be shutting down roads tomorrow in the smaller cities and towns outside Budapest.

So, yeah, people are pissed off now.

Also they are pissed because teh MSZP promised everything and only now is saying everything has to be cut back - pensioners screwed, students pay more etc.

Gotta love socialists! always the first to fuck over the working classes i suppose.

Anyway, ex-pioneer and i have been watching it live on HirTV [ http://www.hirtv.hu ] all night and listening to the sirens go down the streets. The police blundered big time with poor tactics early on by sending a lone water cannon truck into the crowd with out back up from riot cops.

I watched it and thought of Dublin in 2004 - the Irish Riot cops (well trained by their comrades in the North) had a two line defense, plus at least two water cannon trucks. Sending one truck in was easily over taken by the crowd. Later the cop inside the truck was escorted by the crowd safely to the police on the side watching all this. The cop looked terrified.

As a Hungarian myself, living in Budapest, i can't really figure out what's happening now.

As a conspiracy theorist, I'd say last night was a provocation.
The reasons:
- The country is in a terrible financial situation.
-There's a local election campaign going on.
- The socialist/liberal government has already introduced harsh economic/social cutbacks etc They are definitely planning more.
But they still want to win the elections.
- Loads of organizations, groups have already organized demontrations against the cutbacks. The government is bringing in tuition frree at colleges, universities (up until now, it was free until you got your first degree). There will be an organized student demo on thursday.
- At the same time, an anarchistic student network is forming and plotting.
- For Friday, a Critical Mass was organized. Here it means 20-30 thousand people or more.
-Last night, it was a group of far right and football scumbags who stormed the building.
Government wants to ban the demos, I think. Critical Mass has been already cancelled by the organizers. The buildings of the main university, ELTE have closed down and didn't give permission to the anarchistc Student Network to have meetings in the buildings.
Originally, during the election campaign anybody can have protest or rally without any permit from the police. Now that has changed.
I'd say, the government is hoping to be able to declare state of emergency so that they could bring in any regulation they want.
At the same time, I hope I'm just too paranoid and pessimistic. I hope this is a start of something good. I hope that the destuction by far right scumbags will be succeeded by peaceful, non-violent disobedience.
Gyurcsany and government has to go, so does the parliament. All politicians are fucking liars there (as everywhere), we don't even have somebody like Joe Higgins.

At the moment, I surely won't go out to the streets- until I know that things are not happening according to a probably pre-written script by the government.

When you are a citizen of a state involved in settler colonialist project, you are in a tough position.
Instead of the "simple" basic two forces conflict of working class versus capitalist class, you have a multi forces conflict.
The imperial settler colonialist capitalist class; the spilt working class of the imperial class when part of it support the settler colonialist project and part of it even participate in it with their bodies, while other parts of it are on the spectrum of "neutral" or even opposing aspects of the settler colonialist project or even all of it. Then you have part of the elite (capitalists and others) of the colonized population that support the settler colonials, parts of the elite and would be capitalist class if/when the settler colonialism end, and of course the working people that parts of it are often the majority of the masses needed to defeat the settler colonialist project.

As libertarian communists we can not give unconditional support to the movement of the oppressed that oppose settler colonialism because its ideology and practice is not ones we can support. However, we can give full support to the demand for the end of the settler colonialist project, and put forward again and again the explanation that the two sides are not symmetric. We hope, and do what we can to put end to the settler colonialist project.

In one of Matspen basic position documents we wrote that it is the right of the oppressed to rebel and to struggle, and being citizens of the oppressing side we are not in the position to preach to the oppressed what means to use.

In short, we support the oppressed urge and fight to end the oppression without endorsing their leadership, ideology, or each specific means taken by them.

Hungary: Spend your blood! - An ominous July statement from by the Barricade Collective

Spend your blood!

Spend your blood! – says the Red Cross’s morning advertisement to the early risers. The bourgeoisie usually takes his appeals seriously since - beyond the humanist gesture – they promised that they are going to bleed us in fact and are going to draw blood from us more acutely. Latter-day vampires are not frightened even by daylight.

The elections in 2006 were won by the social democrat-liberal bloc, so the MSZP (Hungarian Socialist Party) cleans up the subvention of 969,2 million forints go with this, just as the liberals (Alliance of Free Democrats) do with the 282,0 million forints and the herd of grasshoppers makes a move to guttle our future. The government, referring to the deficit of the state estimate plans huge increase in prices as from autumn. It came in handly for the right-wing opposition that social democrat-liberal bloc won the elections with the reticence of the real item of state estimate and of state debt – so the right-wing is gaining in popularity now, accordingly this conservative rout stands a chance at the local government elections. On May Day the trade unions also came out of their shells: they called those few hundred cretenized workers who can’t live without trade unions to demonstrate against breaking of the law by the so-called „employers” and for „equitable wages”. The Bolshie clowns of the Attac demonstrated together with the trade unions and were emulating each other at their „carnival”. Behind this emulation lies the increase of membership, collection of party due go with this and putting forth of corporate system.

Today fourth of the wageworkers (1 million persons) in Hungary are working as black labourer. They are totally exploited and exposed who won’t get any bourgeois rights, when they accomplish the retirement age (in fact they usually die before this). They are pensionless and don’t have any health insurance – afterwards devils of the body, the laughing capitalist bacilli of the diseases will carouse on them. Spend your blood in order that capitalist factory can operate on! According to the official statistics during the first quarter of 2006 workplaces in 4600 cases trespassed the rights in relation to work hours and made us stay there. These numbers are childlike because in fact there are a lot of unascertainable overtime which are usually not payed. The trade unions demand lawfulness at the workplaces. Contrary to this we would like to enjoy the dialectics of the self-organizing process of the proletariat: we want to see blazing parliaments and prisons, banks burnt-out, capitalism burnt down!

In general the bourgeoisie in Hungary have lost against the countries of ex-Bolshevik zone in the competition for regional investments. As this zone wants to be conform to the Europian Union the ruling class needs a lot of advances and investments. Motorways were built and now are being built too in order that the inflow of capital can accelerate. However, speculations with Forint and advantage made by wage cuts are not adequate to finance the deficit of the budget and of state estimate, while the wolves of capital in other countries are demanding their share from the bourgeoisie in Hungary. Meanwhile the position of the Forint is getting worse compared to Euro, so the situation of the economy is worsening. The debt of the bourgeoisie in Hungary in foreign currency is huge, which is also running up the state debt, so the importation is expensive and the profitableness of exportation is decreasing. The Hungarian economy strongly depends on importation hence the expensiveness of it affects the budget disadvantageously and in the present case they can’t compensate this by advantage from exportation. So they are devolving this disadvantage to us.

The government, referring to economics plans huge increase in prices in all the spheres of everyday life as from autumn. The capitalists continue their competition while the pauperization of working class extends. They have to increase their return hence they steepen the tax (general purchase tax and the tax of the revenue products) from 15% to 20%, so the price of the following things is going to increase: public transport, petrol, tobacco, alcohol, gas, elekctricity, foodstuff, and etc. The lowest degree of increase in price will be 10% and the highest 30%. The government has to step the productivity up and decrease unemployment (while the unemployment rate is getting higher, so they weigh on the active workers), black labour in order to get more money. But for the latter they have to keep minimum wage down. Spend your blood! Medicine prices are on the rise, longer work hours, fees at higher education, quicker judicial process, pulling by taxation authorities (now they have 500 new assessors of taxes to do this more effectively) in order that bourgeoisie can win the day as soon as possible and you pay! Spend your blood in order that our vampires can enjoy their alienated philander at their banks meanwhile we can „enjoy” the reality of earthquakes, floods, heat-apoplexies which are made by capitalism.

Lately there was a survey on the television in connection with the so-called „economical reforms” (in fact increased exploitation of the working class). 84% (sic!) of 6038 respondents said that these measures are necessary. In case the respondents were bourgeois it’s not amazing, but it may be that the workers are falling for the trick of Canaan, which takes tolls before future salvation. So now they „die of starvation” in order that the new godship of capital, who is named Moloch, may improve their living standard. On the contrary factories were closed from Henkel to Mizo dairy at Pécs, lay-offs are continuous: for example lay-off of 12500 wageworkers is planned from public servants, and of more than 10000 from education. Due to the mentioned measures the bourgeoisie hopes plus income of 350 milliard forints this year and of 1000 milliard next year.

From the years of „change of power” we have been witnessing the floundering of the bourgeoisie in Hungary (a few from the most conspicuous examples): increase in petrol prices done unprepared during the so-called taxi-driver blockade, bank consolidations done amateurishly, deficit came from stopping the building of metro No 4., privatisation done slap-dash, unsecured pay-raises, building of motorways. These are the causes of that wave of indebtedness which is heightening the pauperization of working class. To hide this from us they feed nationalism: the 50th anniversary of the proletarian revolution of 1956 is coming hence the American President during his visit in Hungary eulogized this „national war of independence”. This planned marketing policy also strengthens the national pride (and the saint family of Bolsheviks, social democrats, Nazis, conservatives and liberals) and the historians of capitalism can continue scribbling their dirty chronicles. The „convival grandiosity” of Bush’s speech is shadowed by the expedition of capital against the proletariat in Iraq (the proletariat in Iraq, Mexico, Chile, Afghanistan, etc. is fighting against the hell of capital just as the proletarians did in Hungary: left to oneself). Spend your blood in order that the workers do not connect the problems emerging locally with the general crisis of capital, what is not cyclical but permanent. Spend your blood not to associate the proletarian actions in France with your miseries. Spend your blood in order to believe that the continuous demonstrations, strikes, revolts in Latin America are just spectaculars in the media and enter the rooms of alienation in time on Monday morning.

In Hungary the smelters went on strike in June at Diósgyőr, they demanded higher wages, there was a strike call at the air-carrier but they have not started the work stoppage yet. The nation-wide trade union alliances held a demonstration against the planned economical measures not long ago. 4000-5000 workers demonstrated but they objected only to the government and still have faith in democracy. Nevertheless the first frank persons have appeared. In spite of that they criticized the government in low-keyed manner, pointed out that the reigning system is favourable for the bourgeoisie: „The well-situated, who earn during one year as much as the ordinary man all through his life, don’t have to fear”. More accurate phrasing is needed and it will be good! The extreme right opposition is also worming its way, its activists are present everywhere. It’s obvious that this political gang is also incapable of solving the problems of capitalism just as its left-wing twin brother since these are not regional specialities but general tendencies.

Capitalist system wants more and more profit, it extends its services to all spheres of life, on the other hand it „practises economy” and tries to employ less workers thus to step up exploitation. The number of workers dropped out from capitalist labour market is getting bigger all over the world – they constitute the crowd condemned to die of starvation. At the same time it’s obligate for the capitalists to exploit as many workers as they can because in this way they can step up the output and consumption. It’s obvious that they are incapable of solving this contradiction. Beyond the high unemployment rate there are also the wars of the capitalists, their epidemics, the ecological apocalypse and we workers are the passive victims all of these. Our entire mechanical life is confined to the organization of everyday reproduction: work, consumption, tolerance of disciplining, maintaining of our alienated acquaintanceship, schooling of future labour-power. We became domesticated animals educated by bourgeois ethics, alienated mechanics using the things of false consciousness. The capitalist globalization wants to weaken the working class therefore it tries to divide us and pit workers against workers (in general this attempt is successful…). It has to negate its negation in order to be able to profess itself. It has to divide and separate workers because this is the prerequisite of its existence. In the so-called time of peace there are more wars than ever, therefore it’s time to internationalism overcame and by overpassing lamentation we have to destroy capitalism. Each and all of the debates, analyses, revolts, sabotages, strikes, etc. have to meet each other sooner or later on the „roads” of self-organizing of our class. We have to be able to organize ourself on the basis of the communist programme by organic centralisation in oder to abolish all countries, frontiers, and other boundaries! This report was also written with this in view. Avanti!

Hungary: Barikád Kollektíva Analysis of the Current Situation An analysis by the Hungarian Barikád Kollektíva (Barricade Collective) on the recent events in Hungary following prime minister Gurcsány's admissions of lying and the subsequent riots.
Rouse?!

The left-wing-liberal bourgeoisie have continued the chess game with a wrong move. The prime minister's confession, made in May at a meeting of the MSZP faction (Hungarian Socialist Party) was published, in which he announced that his party had won the elections through lies and that it was time they engaged in frank and fully responsible politics. Previously they had communicated much better data about the Hungarian economics than the real situation was. In our previous text entitled Spend your blood! we described the "new" exploiting measures of the government. Some of them have already become operative, others will be implemented in the near future. But we have to clarify why the social democrat-liberal bloc is being forced to take these steps.

The Gurcsány government had wanted to delude us that their economic policy was sustainable while they had been opposed to the general capitalist trend. In recent years they had increased wages, given an extra month's old-age pension per year, made the living wage tax-free, subsidised enterprises (for example the BKV-Budapest Transport Company and MÁV-Hungarian State Railway ... we have to go work somehow after all!) which were operating with deficits. The government had been playing at being a welfare state whereas, due to the pressure of international movements of capital, they should have been taking the opposite measures. The national deficit is estimated at over 20,000 billion forints, which is 60% of the Hungarian GDP. The budget deficit is more than 10% of the Hungarian GDP and in this way the bourgeoisie in Hungary cannot join the Euro-zone nor get financial support from the EU. The MSZP (Hungarian Socialist Party) wanted to win the elections and seemingly wanted to answer to the working class too, and thus they ran into debt. So-called "welfare functions" add up to 60% of the budget and the state operational expenses add up to 12%. But till the elections they were croaking that the level of the budget deficit was acceptable.

Then the "penitent" confession arrived like a bolt from the blue. The government has to implement restrictions in order to find more money, so they have to explain to the working class why they are going to rot our lives. The right-wing opposition, which flirts directly with the fascists, had based its strategy on the economic data provided by the government and had promised Canaan. So they lied just as their social democrat counterpart. We do not moralize on the dirty practices of the bourgeoisie, because we think that falsification, lies and manipulation are basic instruments of the ruling class, requirements of bourgeois class terror. The bourgeoisie, however, were taken short by the reaction of the mass, because they believed the mass to be totally acclimatized to the bipolar political régime. It is evident that this is only a half-truth, so their consciousness-industry is not effective enough. We can see that neither the government nor the opposition expected that the wave of discontent would in part sweep over them. In recent decades, the bourgeoisie and its organizations had become very confident, their dirty democracy had cradled the working class and had outlawed social struggle, direct conflicts with the power from the streets. They had considered the working class in Hungary to be totally idiot and had presumed that the exploited would accept all the lies that were told in their fancy house, the parliament.

The democrats of the oppostion seemingly condemn the bloody events in the streets, but in secret they back the revolters, who are usually fired up by fascist organizations like Jobbik Magyarországért Mozgalom (Movement for Right Hungary), 64 Vármegye Ifjúsági Mozgalom (64 Hundreds Youth Movement). On the other hand, they got frightened because they lost control over the right-wing mass and the result led to struggles between the fascists and the state. The voice of the real class struggle is dampened by the nostalgic nationalism of the Székely-hymn and for the present the outlet of exploitation is dissolving into pseudo-revolutionary nationalist comedy. Fascism is using those members of the working class who are demanding an immediate change of régime/power to lengthen the counter-revolutionary period. Pseudo-Mussolinis are roaring their speeches. The people don't reject them but neither do they identify themselves totally with these spokesmen. Thousands of people demonstrated, but there were serious street fights with the police only on Monday and Tuesday. By now, only the reformist demands of the trade unions, the democratic demonstrations of the student self-government and the actual nationalist-fascist events answered the present situation - while the exploited people are in the streets after all. On the other hand it is conspicuous that there are no social demands, protest voices at all, thus the conflict deflects from direct exploitation and only focuses on the clash between the government and the opposition. The demonstrators have declared that they would use roadblocks and civil disobedience to exert an influence on the government.

Parts of Ferenc Gyurcsány's cretinous, "penitent", but denunciative confession was published on 17th September. Later the whole speech was published. On that day the mass started to demonstrate in front of the parliament with their national clouts and were shouting slogans referring to the speech of the prostitute of capital with some changes: "You *censored*ed up! You *censored*ed up!". Then they demanded the resignation of the government: "Gyurcsány go!". There were other demands, too: "Change of régime!", "Resign!", "Down with the Trianon peace treaty!". Some people from the mass went to the offices of the state television and wanted to advertise their demands. The mass, directed by boneheads (fascist skinheads), laid siege to the building. Various groups of football hooligans, who are usually irreconcilable enemies, united their strength. They inveighed against Jews and most of the people shouted together: "Down with the Trianon peace treaty!", "Down with the Trianon peace treaty!". The singing of the national anthem, nationalist slogans from the 1956 revolution and national flags marked these events. There were a lot of Hungarist flags with the colours of the House of Árpád (the crest of the first Hungarian dynasty, later used by Hungarian nazis in the time of World War II). Nearby, demonstrators damaged the Soviet memorial too. They were not monolithic, because some of them observed that it should not be done. The police were totally unprepared, standing blankly and trying to defend the offices of the state television, but they were not able to arrest the fuglemen. They were not so full-mouthed as usually, because they were not superior in numbers.

If there were pure class struggle in the streets, the fascists would fight united with the police against us! It's a civil war in the literal sense of the word. The voice of class struggle is dampened, while one stratum of the working class is striking and propping up the walls of alienation. The nationalism of self-confining mixes the fascist with the right-wing mass who could recognize the manipulation of the bourgeoisie and would become conscious of their proletarian existence. Now they only maintain capitalism, because they are taken in by politics and media manipulation and they take the nationalist myths as a basis instead of their injured life. They still believe in the opposition, which only wants to govern and exploit us just as the social democrats do. They can achieve it only by the legal voting of the mass. Nevertheless, the first three floors of the television offices were looted. Not only by fascists, but by homeless people, old ladies, students, punks, Roma. They whacked up the loot taken from the smashed buffet, cigarettes, coolers became free of charge. The looting was done mostly by the poor, since it's the tradition of the proletariat, not of the counter-revolution. The spirit of the revolution shot through the nationalist night in this way at least. Several policemen were injured but finally things settled down again.

The next day, Tuesday, the revolters, led by fascist groups, attacked police at Blaha Lujza square. One of their targets was the office of the MSZP (Hungarian Socialist Party). Their slogans were: "Traitors!", "Ry-Ry, Hungary!". The police were more alert; there were a lot of riot squads ready for action. They started to arrest the revolters using TV recordings and photos. The police atrocities were increasing; they attacked passive bystanders if they were bored. Meanwhile the student demonstration against the university tuition and the electoral gathering of the party in opposition, Fidesz (Alliance of Young Democrats), were postponed. By day hundreds of people, but at night thousands of people have been demonstrating against the government. They are demanding conventional assembly and new elections. There are demonstrations in the country towns, too, for example in Szeged, Miskolc, Debrecen, Szombathely, Gyor, Zalaegerszeg. On Wednesday there were fewer revolters in the streets and the police were in superior numbers. Around 150 revolters were arrested, and 500 people are still being looked for. There have been several injuries, 138 of whom are policemen.

The politicians and the media are continue to manipulate when they state that "anarchist ragbags" are rampaging through the streets. The fascists, their own bourgeoisie behind them, have come alive. They are spreading illusions about 1956 because they want to expropriate the heritage of the communist revolution in order to make it out as a nationalist event. They are shouting their slogans with this in view. The right-wing politician and the "heaven-born peoples" are hoping together for the promising future of the nation while the government and the opposition continue with their electoral campaign. The situation has livened up, there remains no more but to awaken the proletariat during the "nights of the long knives"...
